Various questions about GalCiv 2
So it seems v2.20 and the community patch are incompatible. Which is better? Which is more compatible with other mods?

Where can I go for a comprehensive list of mods for this game? Any particular mods people might recommend?

How does one install mods on a Steam game? it's on Linux too.

I found a thread talking about how to install the 2.20 patch. I'm struggling to refind that thread but it said something about starting new game and then removing faction or something, anyone know what I refer to and what that means?

Where is this 100 page manual that the 2.20 patch speaks of? I don't see any download manual option.

Game play questions:

Is there no way to queue research? With Civ games you can click on a latter research and it will research everything required along the way. With GC2 one can only pick a new research one at a time?

If you part way research something and switch, will the old research wait for you to come back latter? Same Q with building planet improvement.

You can trade influence on the trade screen, what does it mean to trade influence?

How does planet spaces with multipliers of a particular resources work?

Let's say I discover a distant planet I wish to send a colony ship to. I need to know if a ship will have enough life support to reach it. How can I know how much life support to put on?

Some planet structures act like Civilizations great wonders where only one civ can build it or not?
Some planet structures can only be built on one of your planets, how do I recognize which ones those are?

Where is the tech that allows you to build survey ships? Is there a way to search the tech trees for such things?

I probably have more questions but this is what I can think of for now. I'll add more latter if they come to me.

Where are manufacturing plants in the tech tree?

If you over-build something on a planet, a star-ship or over-research something, does it carry over?

Is there a way to set relay points for ships?

Does colonizing more planets cause your total population to grow faster? (assuming none of them are at max population)

Is morale bonus and approval the same thing?

Does researching (part way of course) a tech lower its trade price?

Steam version is already v 2.20 and actually that was a community patch that was officially added to the game.
The manual is in the game folder.
Right click on the game in your Steam library - Properties - Local Files.

Community mod is "Update 6.2.4" so not the same thing. Also I had to go into properties -> beta to opt in 2.20, which means there is a reason it's off by default. Perhaps because of incompatibility between the patch and the mod. Also by opting in, that changed the game.

You don#t have to opt into 2.20 . You are playing 2.20 by default.
The Commnunity mod version 6.2.0, if i remember correctly, is the one that turned into offical patch 2.20. You can read it everyhwere. The indivudal update to the Community mod
didn't get turned into an update. That's all. You can just add it to the game. No i'm not going
to explain it to you.

There is a option under Beta of properties of GC2 for opting into 2.20, this was not on by default. When I marked the box for opting into 2.20, how the game works changed. I knew to go there by a thread I stumbled upon (but I lost track of it).
So what you're saying is in direct contradiction to my actual experiences, Varainger.

Is anyone going to answer any of my game-play questions?

Those two options are supposed to be the same I think. You can find announcement of 2.20 at News Section with title "No Game Left Behind: Stardock Brings Update to GalCiv II!" in 2015. The 6.2.4 is latest on April 29, 2020.

Which two options? Same in what way?
Fulano Dec 8, 2020 @ 9:23am
As in the base game and the beta are now the same version of the game because the base game was updated to include what was the beta patch.

I've had several people say they are the same too but I've not confirmed that myself.

Anybody working on a Star Wars conversion? I like the game play just fine, but a graphics update wouldn't hurt.

Does anyone know the answer to any of my questions?

Read the manual and get the answers themselves. Too many questions for me to answer.

The manual does not answer any of these questions. I have searched manuals and online sources for answers to no avail.

How about one question, What is the difference between partial and full planet colonization tech?

Like if you have partial water planet colonization tech, it allows you to partially colonize the planet, and the next tech after that allows you to fully colonize the planet. But what does this mean? The population cap is the same before and after. The spaces available to put structures on is the same before and after. Does the "full" version of the tech not apply to planets you've already colonized?

Look at the production of the planet, when it's partially researched you only get 50%, though research seems to be unaffected.
