You can Cheat Ironman. Just like Darksouls and Demonsouls.
I found out after rage quitting last night that just like Demons Souls and Dark Souls you can just scrub quit to cheat the game.

If you quit after something bad happens. If done fast enough it can often not save in time, and when you go back into the game you will be a move or two behind.

In Dark Souls, if you die, you go back to a bonfire. But if you scrub quit as you die, when you reload the game, you will be back a few seconds before you died.

From Software tries to combat this by saying "Don't exit without saving, the game file can get corrupt and progress can be lost".....only, thats the point. You want progress to be lost.

What happened to me;

Was playing a variation of the cemetary level, on my last units move, to a spot that didn't go any farther ahead, 6 more units spawned, I was already fighting 3 units.

Well I was mad and the game quickly fell apart. They were surrounding me, then killed one of my units and two of my other units panicked. It was early enough in the game that I still only had 4 squad slots.

I was down to one guy so I just tabbed out and quit the game.

But when I got on today, I reloaded because I had kind of forgotten what I did wrong, and the game put me back at the start of that level.

I had yet to start the turn that killed me.

I was still only fighting 3 units, instead of 10.

I couldn't believe it. Wasn't even mad. Just continued playing, but didn't make the same mistake.

So to all those scum savers out there, just like in Demons Souls and Dark Souls if you quit at the second of screwing up, you can possibly get a second crack.

Its greasy. But sometimes life is greasy bubs.

Not gonna lie... That's how I'm surviving Ironman classic.

Then whats the point of playing Ironman? Lold.

Exactly.

I am mad I discovered this.

Mainly because now if I am deep into the game, I will be tempted to scrub quit.

I will admit to abusing it in Demons Souls. Not Dark Souls though, as that game was easier.

So you increase the dificulty level and then cheat in an extremely arguous way? I dub this play style "tinman", because clearly you don't have a brain.

Was that directed at me or Avery?

If at Avery I agree.

If at me, then you didn't read my post, as I discovered it by accident.

The only person you are cheating is yourself. So if achievements mean that much to you...go for it.

ah 'tinman', very good. It is a bit of a waste of time doing this 'save' cheat. I'll give ironman an honest go, but not until they solve some of the more frustrating bugs. Not bad playing impossible with saves, but even then it's freezing and doing odd things and you'd be screwed without the save. I'd put the PC out the window if it corrupted on the last mission of ironman impossible!

The bugs I've seen have been fairly easy to get around, just load and don't do whatever you did when it crashed.

How stupid do you have to be to play Ironman and cheat your way through the game?

Easier said than done, I've had it freeze sometimes during the alien turn after I've mind controlled someone, when there's one alien left in a crashed UFO. There's a kinda randomness to some of the bugs... almost like they're sitting in the code thinking "we haven't screwed with him in a few missions... c'mon we'll bugger up this mission so he loses this place in the next council meeting" :-)

Different systems / setups = different problems, I ran an entire run of normal with a few weird problems when investigating harvester ships (roof problem)... with classic there were a few different errors... impossible has become perhaps one game stopping resetting event every six/seven games, which would just have you playing over the start repeatedly in ironman.

The spawning is a bit mad sometimes, I played one ironman up to 21 missions, then in one game two groups of aliens spawn between me (only two squares infront) and the aliens I'm shooting at (I've a line of shooters, at various elevated positions). So 4 aliens becomes 10 aliens... and 6 soldiers turns into 2 after some fantastic critical shots from across the map against full cover with a light plasma... and it's Goodnight Vienna :-( Would have been different if the 'tactics' I used had considered spontaneously appearing multiple groups on top of my head lol!

My thoughts exactly. I don't begrudge people for choosing to not play on Ironman but if you're going to scrub cheat what's the point? The biggest lure behind Demon Souls and this game are the substantial losses you can suffer by making mistakes, without those you might as well just pick up another game really.

Truth. Just play non-Ironman then.

Seriously

Its pretty lame knowing you can undo whole levels by rage quitting.

It is the same as Demons Souls and Dark Souls.

Sure the answer is "just don't use it"....but that doesn't get rid of the fact that its there. No matter the mission now, all due to one moment of rage qutting, I now know I can just Alt F4 and save the mission.

This obviously comes down to will power, which is why I don't like it.

I wish the game would insta-save the second it exited the game.
Jatekos Nov 7, 2012 @ 3:41pm
I've never tried it so I don't know if it would work but couldn't you just make a copy of your ironman save game before each mission and if the mission doesn't go well just load the backed up save? Or would this not work?

Also this game sucks. Figured since I haven't posted in a few days I'd throw that in there so the fan boys don't get angry at me.
