Won't launch
I got this very strange problem with XCOM EU.

When ever i try to launch the game i get the standard preparing to launch message and then windows ask me if i want to allow the program to change my computer settings, nothing out of the ordinary. But after that nothing happens, i can see that my status is ingame for 1-2 sec before it disappears.

It just wont launch and i dont even get a error message.

My pc specs are:
Windows 7 64 bit
AMD Phenom II 1100T Processor 3.3 GHz
GeForce GTX 560 Ti
8GB DDR3 RAM (Corsair)

The really strange thing is that i was actually able to play the game until yesterday.

if any one could think of a solution or perhaps have had a similar problem and solved it could help me, i would be very gratefull.

AMD.... because it has no Intel inside...
ManBehind 20 października 2012 o 3:53
I do not think thats an AMD issue.... maybe its a steam issue which can not validate the game. Are you on DSL? What kind of modem are you connected on? Is it a Speedtouch (those have similar issues with Steam in other games)? Do you have a firewall? Have you played any other online/multiplayer games on Steam lately? Have you tried simply rebooting the PC and trying again?

HAVE YOU PLAYED THE DEMO? or did you go straight for the game?

I think it's an AMD issue.. in particular machines running under an old BIOS. This has been seen before on Steam, the issues arising from games crashing on machines runing AMD processors with outdated BIOS.

Suggestion... Update your BIOS and try again.
ManBehind 20 października 2012 o 4:21
If its a BIOS issue ...then ouch.
CubeMatrix 20 października 2012 o 4:22
It can be an ouch, especially if there's no update for their MOBOS.

To note, in particular, the combination of AMD and GeForce with old BIOS... it's been crashing machines for years.

Issues and Fixes

Verify File Integrity

If you're encountering issues with launching XCOM: Enemy Unknown, make sure everything installed smoothly.

Aside from verifying your game cache and checking your connection with Steam, you may also need to manually run secondary installers required by this game.

Exit Steam entirely.

Browse to your XCOM Enemy Unknown installation folder (Usually C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\)

Run the following installers:

...\Steamapps\Common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\VCredist\vcredist_x86.exe
...\Steamapps\Common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe

Reboot your computer and test any issues again.

OS Specific Troubleshooting

If the above does not resolve the issue and you are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, please complete the instructions in our Windows 7 and Vista Troubleshooting FAQ.

If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps:

Exit Steam.
Go to the Start menu, select Run, type regedit and click OK.
Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
Right click and select Permissions
Check the Allow boxes for Admin and System for both Full control and Read.

From all reports i read the AMD CPU / BIOS UPDATE issue should manifest itself in very poor framerate. The game should still launch. So i doubt that applies here.

i can't launch my game too... i tried everything.. reinstalling steam, the game, drivers, all... i did the check integrity files and it always find one file corrupted, i download it but at the end after an installing box THE GAME WON'T START... i payed and can't play... gj steam ...
ManBehind 20 października 2012 o 5:17
Damien do you have an AMD too?
Snoogyball 20 października 2012 o 5:24
Hey.
I actually solved my problem by running steam as an adminstrator and disabling Asus GamerOSD, dunno if the last one helped but im not about to fiddle with it again.

I also cannot get the game to start. Tried all the install, regedit intsructions.. I'm on a win XP PC with an Intel Pentium E2200 @2.2Ghz dual core, 4GB RAM (but with XP, less is usable)...

Just a BIT frustrating!!!!
