Game duration? How long does it take to finish?

So I would just like to know, How long does it take to beet?

well I am 21 hours in, playing on normal researched everything and at the last mission, but if you don't do any of the story objectives it can last however long you want.

How long is a piece of string? :)
Difficulty level and time taken planning missions will effect it but word on the grapevine is that its around 30 hours for a campaign I think I read. I can see some of these larger maps taking me more than an hour a piece though with slow moves and careful planning... only to have everyone die to a raging muton :)

All depends on your skill at strategy games and how quickly you rush through the objectives obviously. If you're a slow, ponderous player like myself the game is gonna last quite a while. Not because of any failures, but because I take forever making my decisions both in and out of combat. =D

it's always very difficult to label a duration on any game with any level of side content. It all depends on your level of interest in that side content.

Haven't beaten it yet, but i read on Ufopedia that when you beat it 2nd Options show up for your 2nd Playthrough, one increases the length of the game

Xcom is not a game that you simply 'beat'. Completing the compaign should not be the end of your experience. The game prides itself on replayability, and most will play the campaign through a couple times at least! Then there's online and the ability to challenge yourself through Ironman mode and harder difficulties.

This sounds like a perfect game for me to buy then. Because it is this or Dishonored for me. I can't do both

The second wave option is NOT currently available... Took me about 14 hours to beat...

My playthrough is currently 26 hours and i'm maybe half to 2/3 of the way through (i think). Of course, I tend to put off major plot points until I feel like taking them on... mainly for the purpose of seeing how the tech tree unfolds and what options/upgrades are available when. I can see beating Normal difficulty in less time and Classic difficulty in more.

Some missions have fairly large maps and can easily take an hour depending on how cautious you play them.
