SC2 is a fast-paced, real-time strategy that focuses on building and controlling an army. Even though it has a well-polished singleplayer campaign, the emphasis is strongly on multiplayer and that is where the replayability of the game lies. Once you've completed SC2 singleplayer at the highest difficulty, there is little reason to start over, while the multiplayer aspect remains interesting for years.
XCOM is a more slowly paced, multi-level strategy game, where the majority of the time is spent in turn-based strategy. The game revolves around the control of a small squad of units in the turn-based portion and the management of a worldwide operating organization on the real-time portion (though I don't really consider the base/Geoscape part actual real-time). XCOM is a singleplayer game, despite having a multiplayer mode slapped onto it. The replayability will most likely be in the very high difficulty singleplayer modes that will pose a major challenge to almost all players.
I've played both series, the original and the recent sequel/remake. And both Starcraft and XCOM are great games, class-leading in their field. Gamers that like strategy games should like both series, though people may be put off by the fast pace of Starcraft or by the much slower, turn-based approach of XCOM.
In one aspect, both games are quite comparable. They can be ruthless. Play XCOM on one of the higher difficulties and expect to get your squad brutally murdered. Repeatedly. In ways that seem plain unfair. Until you figure out how to survive. Dive into the multiplayer-ladder of SC2 and expect to get your bases/armies annihilated. Repeatedly. In ways that seem plain unfair. Until you figure out how to survive.
You have worries .Lets just say Deus Ex 2 ,Resident Evil Racoon City and Splinter Cell Conviction never happend .^-^
So much hate. Deus Ex 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction were actually quite fun. I never played the originals for those 2 so I can't exactly compare them but they were still fun. As for the Resident Evil franchise, there's a pretty long list of games most fans wish never happened.
And Resi 6 hmm is a complicated topic which i dont wanna introduce .(to much writing and its my lazy day today )
I like that concept. The "lazy day." We should make that a national holiday. =D
Xcom is more about single player experience.
Both very true. But how would you know about the current xcom? Aren't you the guy with the "back seat commander" thread?
Agree ,you cant have enough national holiday .^-^
To Splinter Cell : Actually it wasnt hate just honesty .
Conviction made fun to play but havent we already enough GOWgameplayclones and less sneaky sneaky guys ? (Yes i really love complexly games and no genric )
If GOW is supposed to be Gears of War I don't think it's at all fair to call Conviction a GoW clone. There were still plenty of stealth elements to that game and plenty of little tricks you could pull to win a fight instead of just shooting. A game having both cover and guns does not instantly make it a GoW clone. If it did then we have a strong contender for that title in this xcom release.
Ohh come on , dont use X-Com as shield ,you know exactly what i mean .^^
For me its more about to stay honest about the roots and not bashing them away .
Yes ,you could play Conviction sneaky but Sam could take so many shoots that it wasnt necessary .If i remeber playing the first one you were dead ,after just about 3 shoots and stealth was needed .Not like in Conviction where the Ramboway was always the best way ,i wouldnt complaining if it would be like in Deus Ex .You have either the chance to butcher everyone or stun and sneak .In Conviction you was almost forced to kill because it was the best way and so much stealthoptions you hadnt .
Edit : Damn you , i wanted to chill out and now see this ♥♥♥♥ even if its my own fault .^^
LOL. Damn me eh? I get you that worked up over such a minor comment?
by SC he means sup comm not starcraft.
dues ex 2 does not exists and has never exsisted
