No sound in game
I have loaded and reload and verified. I can get no sound whatsoever, either at start up, cut sceens or in game.. I have Realtek High Definition Audio with the driver up to date, running Vista 64-bit OS. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem. Thanks.

I had issues with voice audio and have Realtek. I reinstalled my driver, eventhough it was current, and it works. May give that a shot. Running Windows 7 though.

I tried what you suggested and no luck. If there are any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I have also contacted Steam Support but I do not know how long it will take. Thanks.

I have the exact same problem. Also running windows vista 64 bit OS, though my sound card is creative soundblaster x-fi. Also contacted steam support waiting for a reply. Anyone else have the same issue and found a solution?

I have the same thing. Vista 64 bit and SB X-Fi Xtreme. All drivers updated.
No sound at all, but all my other games and Spotify work fine.
Even though I feel for everyone with the same iss, I'm at the same time a bit glad that I'm not the only one. At least it is not my settings or somesuch, so I can stop troubleshooting.
Please post here if Steam support gets back to you.
Had the same problem like you guys, then remembered a similar issue with Skyrim. You have to change sound quality to 44 kHz to hear the sound. Worked for me.

Hanhan, I tried all the options under Properties/Advanced for the kHz for my sound card and none of the options worked. Maybe I am not sure what you are suggesting to do. If you would please be more specific. Thanks.
It is in hungarian, but i hope it helps.

You might want to look up the Skyrim boards, there was a problem similar to this.
You may be able to find a detailed guide there.

I have seen comments on the boards that this problem is realted to surround sound. Try turning that off if you are using it.

That is in Hungarian, but I already tried all those options in the drop down menu without success. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Guys, i got a response from steam, they advised me to do the following:

"
Browse to your XCOM Enemy Unknown installation folder (Usually C:\Program files\Steam\Steamapps\common\Xcom\)

Run the following installers:

...\Steamapps\Common\Xcom\redist\dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe
...\Steamapps\Common\Xcom\redist\vcredist_x86_vs2010sp1.exe
...\Steamapps\Common\Xcom\redist\DXRedistCutdown\DXSETUP.exe
...\Steamapps\Common\Xcom\redist\AMD\amdcpusetup.exe

Reboot your computer and test the issue again."

I did the above (even though the files were not in those folders and i couldnt find the dotNetFx40 file) and my problem was fixed :) hope this helps those of you that are still experiencing the same problem.

Booseeyang,

None of these files are on my machine. I have repeatedly written Steam about this and they are ignoring me, as is 2K, whom I also contacted. Still now sound. Thanks for your suggestions.

My use to work then one day it stoped so i came on here to figure it out and just figured it out myself <All i did was go into Control Panel/ Sound/ Then i clicked the Speaker/Hp and went to Set default. >

If that doesn't fix it then put its on 44hz or 48hz then make sure it's outputing the right amount of speakers.

I did the speaker thing and the Hz thing before setting to default not sure if it matters but it worked, for some reason it was on Digital output device as default.

Solution for, at least, Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum

Right click your speaker icon in notification area icons, go to "Playback Devices."

If you have your optical (SPDIF) output set as your default device, go ahead and change that to just your normal "Speakers" output. No, right click the "Speakers" output and go to properties. Select the "Advanced" tab, then in the dropdown menu, select 441000 hz @ 16 bit. This worked for me, so hopefully that will help you.

For me, the reason was windows volume mixer (the one where you can set volumes to individual applications). I never use it, so no idea why it was all the way down for XCom - must be some kind of bug.

Anyway, once the launcher is started, you can check that by right-clicking sound icon -> "open volume mixer". Hope that helps!
