Dell XPS 17 - Stuttery cutscenes, crashing on loading engine - Solved
Hey,

I have a new Dell XPS 17 and when I first started the game, the initial animations and cutscenes would stutter and the game would crash loading a map. Tried all in game settings, etc , etc. on Windows 7 x64.

Initially thought it was using the Intel card as default rather than the Nvidia card that is defaulted to with games. Tried a bunch of stuff with that to no avail.

Two things I did to fix the issue: Updated to latest Nvidia driver (September 13th. I had an 'update to date' driver that was released around Guild Wars 2 tho, so I wasn't horrifically out of date). Also went into the Steam apps directory and changed the compatibility of the .exe to 'Windows 7'. I know, makes no sense but it works like a charm now.

Just thought I'd post in case someone else has this issue.

I play this game on Window 7 x64 bit with no problems at all. So I know its not the OS.

Lab tops are generaly not made for gaming and usally have a labtop video card which is not fully compatible (Or as Powerful) as their desk top version. In addition, lab tops usally suffer from intergrated componets.

Your lucky you got it to work at all.

However ! Good for you and have fun playing !

Yeah, I've never had any issues before and I play every game out there. This ♥♥♥♥ is just buggy as hell IMHO
I have the latest drivers on an ASUS G74 with 16 Gigs of ram. Choppy cutscenes.
Believe there was a fix higher res cutscenes posted to the Reddit gaming page, try to google it down. Outside that, yeah laptop graphics chips are a picky lot. They are prone to getting hot and the drivers sometimes seem to be a little bit behind.
Nvidia releases their mobile drivers alongside their desktop versions, most nvidia mobile GPUs are built around a desktop chipset already in production making compatibility almost a non issue, laptop gaming is a reality and on my G74 I've run into as many issues running games as the average desktop player. People need to remember that this isn't 10 years ago anymore.
