How do you hire engineers and scientists?
I'm early in my first play through and can not find anywhere to hire more engineers and scientists. :(

Some missions offer one or the other as a reward. Other than that... I don't know either.

I think they are mission bound, I figured out how to hire more troops.

you get them from some missions, and don't you also get them from building workshops?

You can hire more troops, but engineers and scientists are mission rewards.

You also can get some every month based on where you have your satellites.

yeah mostly mission rewards and monthly allocations from what countries you're protecting.

Building laboratories and workshops increases the number of available scientists and engineers you have.

Hence, expand your base.

laboratories just increase research speed. just 1 scientist can research all the projects. but a certain number of engineers required to start and complete building items, so go for engineers on missions. and yes, you get some scientists/engineers from protected countries overtime

Placing satellites, mission rewards, monthly payouts, and you get scientists/engineers for building laboratories and workshops.

I think they need to loosen that up a bit. Permit us to hire up to 5 of each every month.

Seems like there was a lot of dumbing down of the strategy due to the one base concept, and simplified resource management. The counter to this is to link the strategy to the mission response options. Everything I have read so far says always choose engineer over scientist if you can choose between the 2 mission types.

Bugs me that you cant do every mission. One of the challenges in classic was to run a perfect game - respond to every UFO sited. Almost impossible but still you could pull it off if you planned right and got lucky in the first few months. This game seems to reduce the strategy element to be about choosing which countries you are ok with losing first...
