PC Controls Broken (Mouse & Keyboard)
Taken from the Destructoid.com review:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It may have taken console games a good amount of time, but I think we’ve finally arrived at the ideal control setup for a turn-based strategy game. Being able to quickly zoom out with the left trigger, rotate camera with D-pad, and switch characters with the bumpers feels natural. EU takes influence from Call of Duty in more ways than one. Just as CoD and Gears of War popularized the use of sticky actions for shooters -- as in the game guides your character/crosshair to the action you wish to perform -- EU does the same for strategy games. Getting rid of grids and adapting this new system feels natural and so damn good.

Ironically, the PC controls are abysmal. Firaxis took one step forward and one step back. There is no quick zoom button (there is one listed in the options menu but it wouldn’t work, no matter how I reconfigured it), rotating the camera is awkward, zooming is even worse, and keyboard shortcuts are not as smartly placed as they are on the controller. The menus are harder to navigate, you can’t zoom in on your headquarters, and a lot of other actions that are easy to perform with a controller are made difficult or taken out altogether. You’re going to want to play this with a controller and, yes, I know how strange that sounds. Even the PC exclusive grid mode is a nuisance that only breaks immersion and makes the game frustrating.

I have to admit, I am worried. I have a 360 controller for my PC, and I suppose I will use it (was not planning on that), but I am not happy. I love using mouse and keyboard for strat games. But broken or missing control features? I am not amused.

Don't get me wrong, still hyped. But annoyed/hyped.

This looks bad, very bad. I hope some patch will come to fix it. It is so strange to see that a fricking gamepad works better than a mouse and keyboard on a stat game.
Had the demo. Seems fine to me
Didn't seem to be a problem w/ me on the demo. I may plug in my PS3 controller and give it a whirl.
Nonsense utter nonsense, I've played the demo and they were perfect.
I did alright with the mouse/key on the demo. But so far in just about every gameplay video I have seen, the Dev's used a controller. Honestly, In a Turn Based Strategy game I see no problem using a controller at all, it makes the repetitive movements much easier to deal with. If it were an RTS where you need fast and precise responses then you would obviously want to use the mouse and keyboard.
Um, every gameplay video I've ever seen directly refutes these statements. I don't think this dude actually played the game or he's using some funky 197 key wireless bluetooth keyboard that needs special drivers or something.

Uh... yeah, if the game is like the demo, we're good here. Worked perfectly for me, and I pre-purchased basing myself on how things worked in the demo.
It's true that zooming takes a bit to get used to as when zooming out it tilts the camera a bit, but that's just something that takes a bit to get used to - at least for me. But other than that I was fine with shortcuts and whatnot.
Demo was fine for me too. Controls were intuitive and almost exactly how I expected them to be.
Edit: I am excited, however, to hear that they got a good control scheme for controllers set up too. I was a bit worried there.

utter nonsense. demo was fine. only complant was camera controls on multileveled structures. Very hard to see what is going on, but perhaps another playthrough will aliviate my concerns here.

Sorry for typos.
Demo was totaly fine also to me too, I used wheel on mouse and there were no problems at all... and if there is problems at all, I am pretty sure they will pretty soon release some patch!
Demo was fine with mouse and keys, the usb ps2 pad worked okay aswell not as well as the mouse and keys but useable.
That worried me when I read the Destructoid review too. But then, I played the demo and the PC control scheme seemed fine to me? I'm guessing the reviewer just couldn't adapt to that scheme.
Guarentee that the reviewer had probably been playing the press release with a controller as well. Needing to switch to a PC keyboard and mouse for the sake of the review probably proved to be too much to handle (as it is with any game, whether you switch from K&M to controller, or vice versa, depending on what you're use to).

The review was probably done almost entirely with a controller, and probably switched to K&M for a mere round before switching back. It's unfortunately annoying that this has to occur in most review houses. I would like to see actual PC reviews done by someone who played most of the game on the PC.

The controls in the demo were so bad that I almost skipped buying this despite my love all things XCom... Particularly the having to hit the confirmation button after every single order and the height management and vertical scrolling that causes seizure-inducing flickering of the landscape elements like building floors and roofs.
