Interface bug? Game stuck.

During my first time playing, I saw that three of the five continents for base locations were red and unavailable. I wondered why, so I selected one. Instead of being given the reason, the UI basically locked up; nothing new popped up, and I can't change my selection. The game is stuck. I cannot even escape to a menu; instead I must force close the program.

Is this a known issue? This game has been around long enough that I would expect obvious problems like this to be patched by now.

First time I have heard of this. If you have the tutorial enabled it restricts your continent choice to only two regions. Disable the tutorial (or play it once and then start over without it) since it ends up limiting your options.

Alright. I appreciate the explanation, although the lock-up is still a serious problem.

Your response does confuse me a little; I would have thought that the tutorial would smoothly lead into the game, but you're saying that it permanently cuts me off from some options? That seems like a poor design choice if so because it would be natural to play through the tutorial mission as a story introduction regardless of whether the player actually needs to be taught how to play.

It limits the choice of base selection in order to give you the most balanced experience. Asia and Africa require more specialized strategies than the big money boost from the US.

I see. A little research indicates that most people recommend playing through the tutorial and then starting a fresh game without it. Still a little weird, but I can work with it. Thanks!
