How to avoid Sectoid Commanders mind control?
Is there any way to avoid it? Can the SC MC just once per turn or how?

The higher you WILL stat the less likely you are to be mind controlled. There are some items you can produce to give you higher will but those come later in the game. One perk that you can get is iron will which increases the amount of will a soldier gets every time he is promoted.
If you give him a flank shot on one of your soldiers they'll usually take it. I'll take a six crit over losing a soldier to MC any day.
I~d rather let him MC than shoot because I`ll still have a full turn to kill him before the MCed soldier becomes an issue.

Of course that kinda relies on there not being all that many other enemies around.

What do you mean by "MC then shoot"?
MC than shoot. MCing doesn`t do direct damage and you can usually end him before the next alien turn, freeing the soldier from the mind control.

You can also use disabling shot on the MC'd soldier if you don't kill the alien next turn. It doesn't do full damage and it will buy you another turn to kill the alien. Just be careful you don't accidently kill him/her.
When you encounter an alien that can mind control you have basically 2 turns to act.

Turn 1: you make first contanct with the alien and it takes cover doing nothing.

Turn 2: the alien mind controls one of your soldiers, wasting all its action points and doing nothing else. The soldier that gets mind controlled does nothing too in this turn.

In the following turn the alien will shoot and the mind controlled soldier will shoot too.
So basically you want to kill the alien on turn 1, but if you can't you still have turn 2 to safely kikl it.

Actually sometimes the mindcontrol able alien decides to shoot on turn 2 instead of mind controlling, wich is actually worse becouse it can kill one of your soldier.

The worst case scenario is that the alien moves to a position and then mind controls the only soldier that could see it. In this case on your turn you can't see the alien and the only thing you see is the mind controlled soldier. In this case it's better to retreat, but remember to not put your soldiers on overwatch becouse they will kill their fellow MCed soldier. The strategy here is hunkering down, using smoke granades on yourself, or suppress/disable shot the MCed soldier untill 4 turns pass, at this point the mind control wears out.

I had worse scenario. This happened once I tried to capture Etherial.. In return, he mindcontrolled my heavy and run out of sight into another alien left from my earlier mindcontrol (he run out at the very beggining of the mission). As it turned out, even more, Etherial got ontop of the ufo after that. Smarty one... Happened on classic once, had to reload a bunch of times.
The other option is to take an Alloy SHIV or Hover SHIV on downed UFO missions and intentionally use them as a scout/bait. The alien commanders usually panic and just shoot at it, and if they don't, you can almost always do a successful flank and just kill the commander with the SHIV.
before you get your own psy soldiers, getting out from their sight is the only way
Actually, now that I've played more, allowing them to mind control one of my guys seems like a good idea.
Don't worry, once Enemy Within drops you can get Gene Mods that can negate Mind Control.

This honestly seems like a decent use for SHIV.

The screenshot I saw from EW didnt exactly negate it unless its been changed since then, instead you were stunned for a round, which is still bad, and often more or less what happens anyways if you shoot alien soon as it MC's a guy.
I dunno. Mind control seems to be getting hit with the NERF bat in EW. I wonder why they are focusing on that ability so much. Mind control is not that hard to deal with.

Neural Damping: Confers +20 Will when defending against Psi attacks, and immunity to panic. If the soldier is mind controlled, the control is cancelled, and the soldier is stunned for 1 turn instead.

Neural Feedback: Damages a failed mind control. In game I saw it do 20 damage.

What is the purpose of will? Also, what new will EW bring? $30 seems like a lot considering I got the whole EU set for less than $10.
