Wtf... is it possible to get all countries not to leave?
I'm playing on normal and in less than 5-6 missions, some countries panic mode is high and they're about to leave. I have been trying to get workshops ASAP as well as only choose missions that help me gain scientists unless the countries panic mode is 3 bars or more but it isn't enough to get enough satelites. I chose Africa as my base. Anything I can do to keep all countries and get satelites up faster?

Get lucky and don't lose missions.

Yes it is possible but you need to get lucky with your mission placement or churning out satellites has to be your game plan. It is actually not a bad strategy to ignore the countries in your home continent since you already get the bonus for starting there. Only exception is countries that give you a lot of money for satellite placement.

Bottom line: Do not worry about saving everyone. Just make sure that you are able to control panic.

Yes, unless you get really lucky and/or maximize satellite efficiency you`re probably going to lose a few countries. I don`t even try for all members anymore, just leave one continent for the slurry maker.

You can, with some careful thinking, keep all countries, especially on Normal. The key is to understand the Panic system, and make good choices when it comes to the respective Abduction missions. The country you assist with the Abduction mission will get a big reduction in Panic, BUT, the other two countries you don't choose will get a reasonable INCREASE. PLUS, any country in a CONTINENT you ignored will also get an increase in Panic.

The key to managing this is to ensure you build about 3 satellites per month, and make sure you build the Uplinks and Nexuses to handle them (you also need to ensure you have aircraft to protect said satellites, and enough engineers to build all this stuff). Build satellites and Uplinks/Nexuses early in the month, because they take a long time to complete (satellites: 20 days; eep!).

Since countries at 5 Panic will not leave the XCOM Project until the end of the month, it is advantageous to wait just before the council report before launching. Any country that you can deploy a satellite to will get an instant reduction in Panic, even those whose Panic meter is completely full at 5!

Hope this helps,

-HM

To do it you'll need to focus resources on building satellites, getting engineers, and building satellite uplinks - even if you can't get a launch spot, build one just to have it ready.

Save your satellites until just before the end of the month and launch them only over countries that have maxed out their terror bar. If someone's got even one less than max then they can wait until later. Pick countries that give you engineers for terror missions, if you have satellite available then even if the countries you skipped max out you can stop them from leaving by launching the satellite the day before the end of the month.

Its difficult, but doable - you trade a lot of early advancement for ensuring a huge supply of stuff in the end-game but once you have a satellite over every country then you can relax and focus that dough on beefing up your organization.

He who fights for all countries stands for nothing.

Or was it he who falls for X-Rays catches plasma bolts?

the satellite advice above is good stuff. i don't know if this applies for all major storyline quests, but the following anecdote might be helpful as well: i had 4 countries at max panic, and found myself with 2 days before the council report and no way to reduce the panic in time, but i had been sitting on the skeleton key/base assault quest for some time. so not knowing whether it would do much good, i launched the mission. after completing it i got a worldwide reduction in panic. shortly after that, i had a satellite uplink and satellites finished and deployed, and have managed to stay on top of panic levels since then (i think i still only have 4 satellites deployed with a maximum capacity of 5, but a satellite nexus is about to come online which should double my coverage). i've probably been a bit lucky in not having a ton of abduction missions since the base assault and have gotten a fair amount of spaceship missions which has kept me from getting desperately short of alloys etc.

tldr; like launching satellites at the end of a month, timing your main story missions for the end of a month may be a good way to keep panic down (assuming most of them give the same type of reduction that the skeleton key mission did, which i'm not 100% sure of)

satellites. only satellites in a priority in the first 2-3 months. for all difficulties.
start building a workshop till March 7, it's rly important.
begin production of at least two satellites till March 10. (with two satellites in the first month you precisely won't lose some countries on start. u can to try to order more sattelites (and it is better)but but look at money, if u can't start build sat.uplink till 17march,it's fail:[[ )
sat. uplink till 17 march.
and engeneers for reward in 1st month ofc, it's key to succes.just keep it in mind.
also don't forget about the gray market ;)
with good economy after 2-3 months game turns in ez mode (my first try was on hard+ironman).
good luck)

It can be done, I did it on classic once, but luck is needed. A couple of well placed terror missions and timing the base assault for maximum moral benefit were needed (love that global reduction), as well as focusing on getting a satalite uplink/nexus every month, i didnt need one on the very first month but many suggest otherwise.

I've only ever lost one country in a few playthroughs on Normal.
Segovax Sep 14, 2013 @ 6:07am
If you spam sattelites and hold them on a launch until end of month and can make it to the base assault without losing a country you can finish the game on Normal without losing a council member. IMO it's more trouble than it's worth in the end since it's resources you could put towards stuff like shooty bits and truckz.

I've done it but only in Normal difficulty. Maybe you can get lucky if playing in Classic or above.
