Hitting "not now" on slingshot missions?
So, does anybody know what happens when the Council requests you do a mission from the slingshot DLC, and you say "not now"?

I know with the first mission you have the choice to choose the regular council missions, or the slingshot missions, and choosing the regular council missions locks you out of slingshot for the rest of the campaign. HOWEVER this question pertains to turning down a specific mission in Slingshot.

I'm at the third and final mission, and all of my best troops are in the med bay from the previous mission. As such, I know I will fail this mission if I even TRY because I don't have lasers or carapace armor yet, and all of my availible trrops (sane for Zhang) are rookies.

So, if I say "not now" for the third mission, will I get some more time to prepare? Or will that just lock me out of the mission forever?

The only one you have to do is the first one. Once you do that you can postpone the rest of them.

At least that's what I've heard.

I can confirm that you can put off at least Gangplank for a while. Wanted to get Precision Lasers done first so I tried it. They`ll leave you alone for a bit then bug you again. And Again. And Again. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Yep, the only one you can't ignore is the first one or it's gone forever. Besides that, you can tell the Council to take a hike as much as you want.

Oh yeah, this too. The Council bugs you once ever 1-2 weeks until you decide to finish the mission not so much because you genuinely feel it's the right time for it, but just so you'll stop the constant spam.

Seriously, couldn't they just leave it in the Situation Room as a constant mission until you completed it? Jesus Christ :squirtmeh: .

I tried putting them off and the council kept bothering me the next day each time I did. Was very annoying, finally just said screw it. Don't remember if it was the 2nd or third mission.

You can put off the second & third. I do it often, as by the time you get the second one troops are usually not ready for it. I have heard if you wait too long, enemies will be tougher, so best not to put it off too long.

I don't think that's true. I've played those missions quite a few times and the number and type of enemies have remained the same everytime.

Okay, I've actually tested it in game and it DOES seem that you can put it off for as long as you want.

However, all my good soldiers are healthy and ready to go and I have laser rifles, so that should hopefully be enough to make it through the mission in one piece.

But the second mission is timed to 10 turns so... just be very, VERY sure that you're up for it ;).

I~ve done it perfect with ballistics. Shouldn`t be a problem with Laser rifles.

Haha, that second mission has slaughtered me (on Classic) twice now. I won't give spoilers for anyone coming up against it for the first time, but some of the surprises on that level are beastly. VERY grateful for this thread, as I'll try delaying the mission now. I was also assuming that skipping the 2nd mission would mean "opting out" of the whole chain. Thanks!

It's always the same enemies, that's why slingshot make the game easier. You avoid council missions for the time it's active, you can hold it into you are strong enough to make it easy and the enemies are always the same.

See I don`t neccesarily agree with that. One of the most useful things about council missions is the panic reduction reward, so the first time I tried Slingshot I went into a bit of a panic spiral early on.

I have a much less difficult start without Slingshot and the mid to endgame is pants anyway.

For me it was easier, I lost only two countries. The issue I had the first time I tried Classic was with failed council missions, which raise panic, aside from the dead soldiers. Since there isn't a mission to fail, I had less problem with it. Sure, you need to be luck too, but panic isn't hard to control if you try to make sure that you will have sattelites to launch before the end of every month...

I failed the second mission on iron man classic, I couldn't get to the last location in the remaining turns left due to a fire blocking access.

in case anyone is still curious; you can skip the 2nd and 3rd missions [but not the first or the entire 'mission chain' is lost]. The council will offer the 2nd & 3rd missions about 4 times in a row if you hit 'not now' or ignore the request. You won't see it pop up again for a few weeks, possibly a month, but the council will ask you again.
