Possible to work on Windows XP?
So this game does not launch at all no matter how often I restart, reinstall, or verify files. I have tried every possible solution from the support center and support forums.

Then I realized that I had the same issues with Krater, and that I can't run Krater because I'm on Windows XP and Krater requires Windows Vista at minimum. I can't, and will never be able to, run Krater on the XP OS.

Is X-Com the same? I see it has Vista as a minimum requirement -.- or does anyone here have it working on XP? :ftlmantis:

That costs money. And new Windows UI's are nearly always a downgrade lol.

7 is okay I suppose. Anything, ANYTHING but 8.

Vanilla does not run on XP. However, there is a fan made hack that makes it work for XP.

here are instructions how to make X-Com run on XP. I'm playing on WinXP myself, haven't run into any trouble so far.

Thanks for the heads up :)

What, you don't use windows 98?

Also, just for you information, when the OS you're using doesn't even meet the minimum requirements of a medium level game, you probably should upgrade and/or not buy the game.

You know, if I had actually seen the minimum OS requirement, I actually wouldn't have bought the game. You don't need to be some great detective to ferret out the fact that buying the game was a mistake in this situation, but thank you(?) for the observation nontheless lol.

Every game in my library runs except for X-Com and Krater. I think I can hold out a few more years before dropping a hundredish dollars on a newer, more obnoxious OS.

But hey, who needs to be pragmatic when you can just be elitist? newst tech iz only tech worth having <_> XD

And here we get to the real problem. No one's asking you to get bleeding-edge stuff, but reasonably, computers change and as system requirements go up, software is going to get phased out. You're already seeing that happen. Twelve years is a long time.
He could always get one of those newfangled console thingys if he doesn't want to upgrade his computer.

I know, haha. And when the majority of games have this issue, I may get 7. *shrug*. Simple solution to a simple problem lol.

A console? Tell me more, time traveller! What is this strange device? Is it powered by steam? I've only read of those in story-books!

Edit: (that was a simple time travel joke, by the way, not a stealthy reference to the Steam Box. Just for clarity lol)
