"Some saves cannot be displayed because they were created in another language"
Has anyone found a solution for the error i put in the title?

All my save games are gone... it's really annoying when you put 8 hours into the game, and tbh I can not be arsed to start all over. The actual save files are still there, but they just won't show in the load game dialog.

Oh, it is much worse then that. The files are corrupted, probably when the game crashed. Now the corrupted files are saved on the cloud storage and if you delete them locally the cloud synch will put them right back again when you start the game. I have a broken file that has prevented the auto-save from working anymore. When I delete the file, it gets put right back by the stupid cloud storage. I have been trying to find a way to either turn it off or delete the files from the cloud but no luck so far.

Did you change the language of your game?
Burbot 2013 年 2 月 16 日 下午 12:26
To turn Steam cload off - right click the game in Library and find the appropriate properties tab - uncheck the Steam cloud box.

Thanks, that did it for the cloud storage. I kept thinking it was a global setting so I was looking in the profile.

No, I did not change the language, the game crashed and after that it started complaining about one or more saves being a different language. It simply corrupted one of the save files. The save file was an autosave and that turned off the autosave for the game. After finding the could storage setting I loaded a game, did not get the message, but autosave was still not working. Turns out the autosave is a setting in the game itself and it had been turned off. I turned it back on and now things are working correctly again.

Thanks for the advice. I was starting to get really annoyed at this.

I did the same and deleted the corrupted file. But now if I turn on the Steam Cloud again, it will put the corrupted file on my directory again. Does that mean that I won't be able to use Steam Cloud on XCOM ever again?

There must be a way to clear the steam cloud, if anyone knows post it.

That's what I'm wishing for.

Mine bugged when I had a power failure (luckily not all saves were corrupted). Now I'm forced to play without the cloud. OK for now, but I would also like to know a way to purge the cloud storage and reupload my local files up there (I have identified the corrupted save and deleted it from my drive, but the cloud keeps creating it).

Look on Steam for the answer.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2470784

that link may be old.
Bookmark for future reference if it still works that way. Or it should not be too much difference I suppose. I turn Steam Cloud off, the game saves on my computer and I have never had a corrupted saved game. Might want to check out your harddisk.

Might want to copy your Saved Games over to another folder first to have a backup copy of them.

The only time I've encountered this is because I DID change language (first game was loaded in english before I changed to french) so...if this is not your case, well, I cannot help...have you tried to check the cache integrity ?
Wernight 2015 年 8 月 3 日 上午 3:38
What the hell?! I mean seriously, why make saves locked down to one language. It's on Android I've to change language frequently (for professional reasons) and the game local saves must be able to follow. Why are cloud saves broken?! :steamsad:

Stream, fix this ASAP please. Internationalisation is common good. Cloud saves are there to last, not to be broken once your running on a system using another locale.

I keep getting the same error. I tried the solution here:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2470784
but it didn't work. :(

honestly, I don't care about my games, I just want to get rid of that annoying message. Any fixes?

I had the same issue, first started the game in Polish, played some, but I found the translation silly, so I switched to English. And the annoying message started to crawl up... XCom stores cloud saves a bit differently it seems, so the instructions from the forum post on deleting saves don't work right off the bat (strange...).

Fortunately there is an easier way to remove those saves

TL; DR: corrupt the files, start game, delete files in game (they will appear as corrupted saves), exit game, cloud sync should pick up that you deleted the files.

More detailed steps:

  1. Make sure steam cloud is ENABLED and working (on both general and game properties)
  2. open the console - [Windows]+[R] and type
    cmd
. A command line window will open, and you should be in
    C:\Users\YourUsername>
  3. change dir to your save folder by typing:
    cd C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\My Games\XCOM - Enemy Unknown\XComGame\SaveData
. Of course remember to substitute YourUsername for, well... your windows username :)
  4. Locate the unwanted saves (HINT: you can probably distinguish them by their save date) by typing
    dir
. There should be files named saveN where N is a number.
  5. corrupt all unwanted files (lets say they are named save1, save2, and save3) by using:
    echo 'aaa' > save1 echo 'aaa' > save2 echo 'aaa' > save3
and so on. Of course echo only to the saves you want to get rid of.
  6. start XCom normally, go to load game, and: a) message should be gone :steamhappy:, b) you should see three (or more) corrupted saves. Delete them using the in game delete method. Exit XCom, wait for cloud sync. Voila, you're done! :steamhappy:

PS: if you are non comfortable with the console, you can go to that save folder using windows explorer and:
  1. open each unwanted save file in notepad,
  2. delete the contents,
  3. save it back
. Using console is much easier though as you just enter it once and then press arrow up to edit previously used command and change only the number in the save's filename.

PS2: Steam... still no clear cloud save option... shame on you... :steamsad:

This tip just deleted my file without syncing and now my savegame is gone forever. Shouldn´t try solutions with deleting files before backing up. Learned it the hard way on my promising classic ironman run. :poocry:
