Ok, dang it... the game designers DO suck
here's why:
they've gone BACKWARDS...

we used to be able to give our squaddies more inventory
we used to be able to get our squaddies to pick up ♥♥♥♥♥ off the ground
we used to be able to launch MORE THAN ONE SHIP AT A TIME...

it would be one thing if the reverse was true.... remember when the designers couldn't figure out how to have more than one plane shooting at an alien craft so we had to launch them one by one...

but it's the opposite....

shame on these guys for giving us a half baked game... i think xcom fans are the most loyal fans for a reason....

and this game could have been so much better, but they were just lazy and didn't want to have to deal with more complications....

one thing i can say for sure... this game will NOT be remembered by anyone five years from now, not by anyone new gamer or old gamer..... whereas the original xcom will always be considered one of the best games of all time....

these game designers should be ashamed of the half assed product they put out....

I started a thread "What do you want to see in the next Xcom game" and I would appreciate you guys adding some feedback on what you prefer in an Xcom game....fans of the original or EU or whatever.

Though i really enjoyed the new game, some things bugged me. (from my experiences with TFTD)
Missing Features:
More Soldiers: I miss having a full 14 soldier craft to go on missions. It was a pain to equip everyone before every mission (i put tazers on everyone always, but the game never auto-distributes them. Nor would the game auto-distribute additional rocket ammo, which was lame since what good is it to have a demolition guy with only 1 rocket equipped)
Just making the game save your soldiers loadout would correct that issue.

Lack of items: There was a real lack of item diversity, which doesnt really matter since the game is balanced around 4 different classes, so no need for 30 different weapons. But if we were allowed more soldiers, with more items we could customize our squads better. I used to spread my 14 man team in 3 squads, each with varying specialties.
I had medics with lots of medipacs, others were carrying ammo for the group, a couple of guys would stay in the ship for backup, some would have explosives, other would carry some badass weaponry just for the lolz (that guided rocket with a blast radius as large as your screen :D)
In this game, they replaced item diversity with a skill tree, which is ok i guess..
though i absolutely hate it in multiplayer when that guy has lightning reflexes and everytime i take a reaction shot i cant hit him, it kinda pisses me off

Inventory: I dont care about game balance, i want it to be fun. We used to be able to have grenades, medipacks, tazers, gps and whatnot on EVERY character if we wanted to. It wasn't a good idea since you had STAMINA; the more you carried, the less time units you had to spend every turns, but at least YOU could decide depending on your soldiers strength and stamina who would carry stuff..

STATS: we used to have more stats, like stamina for example, for deeper strategy on the field

Bigger maps: Sure small maps goes for faster missions, but come on, what fun is it to go on missions to kill 4 thin man in under 10 min... with more soldiers we could handle a lot more aliens, and in these kind of games i prefer fighting lots of weak aliens, then fighting a couple of strong ones
Sure the missions would take a bit longer to complete, but surely theres a sweet spot between TFTD cruiser missions and those 10 minutes missions from EU.

Geoscope: I miss sending my ships patroling, then sending 3 barracudas at the same time and micromanaging them to hunt enemy ships, trying to figure out where they're headed, and why was that large alien craft landing so close to my base and HOLY *** THÉY HAD AN ALIEN COLONY RIGHT NEXT TO ME THIS WHOLE TIME

Multiplayer: Though i think multiplayer is a great addition to the game, i really wonder how come there is only 5 maps to choose from?? theres a random map generator for singleplayer, lots of type of gameplay misisons, yet for multiplayer all we have is 5 small maps, only deathmatch type of games... I dont care if the map isn't perfectly balanced/symmetrical, i just want to have fun with friends on new maps each time

There are also a lot of cool things in this game compared to the old one, i am just hoping the next game will be more of a cross between the 2 versions than it is now.

And i understand that they didn't have quite a large team, and they developped the game under a 2 year time-frame i think, so i'm still quite pleased with the result, seeing as we saw some awful xcom games before (couldnt endure the after*** trilogy at all, not to mention a certain xcom interceptor...)

And don't forget, this one was a "prototype"; nobody knew what kind of market this game would get, but with the ratings the game got, we WILL see another x-com game from them, and i'm confident the sequel will be far more complete and enjoyable.

Sorry for the wall of text, i was bored and felt compelled to give my 2 cents. Cause this game ain't bad at all, but no one can deny they removed content from what we used to have.

Modelling everything in 3d now in our days cost a lot more time and money off the budget of the games than previously, thats why we see better looking games, with half the content we used to have. That makes me mad, but that doesn't mean the game isn't enjoyable anyway.

I agree. Game needs more content.

And what is this? Cover is actually a thing??! Your men are more than just stats lists and a name??! Blasphemy!

Okay, first of all, cover was a "thing" in TOG, whether or not TOG said it. Whether it worked all that well was another thing, but seeing as how, in this game, having a seed where an alien can have .0000001% chance to hit you and will hit you every single time you reload the game and make the same moves, I guess that's completely fair. I'm sure that you remember, or maybe not, from the kneeling to standing position you could see an alien or not see an alien. What is that? Cover, dumbass.

What is the point to this post? To point out the hubrisness, audacity, and just plain denseness of the guy's post. Sadism is what I would call it, your milage may vary.

Geesh... Yet another thread with yet again the same rants.

Yah, it's funny, huh? How completely random people can walk in off the street and start complaiming about the same things, that we trolls, have complained about?

Who would'a thunk it?!

Oh, and equipping all 26 soldiers. In an IDEAL world, the game would allocate 26 heavy plasmas, 26 clips, and 26 alien grenades evenly across all the troops, but sadly, it just stacks all those items on my first 7 troops. Time to spend 20 minutes redistributing! Joy!

Yah, the game was produced more than 18 years ago. Uhhh, hi, give it a break. More sadism, FTW.

No, kneeling or standing did not give you cover. It gave you LOS. The alien would waste you regardless of your stance (a little less if your stance was kneeling because you were a smaller target.

And just because the aliens got lucky doesn't mean they always get lucky. The sectoids have a 75 aim on classic, so they still miss 25% of the time. I've had a rookie standing in the open get missed by 2 sectoids. So no, they don't just magically "always" hit.

Oh, and the seed. Yes, someone else is still ignorant of how seeds work. Of course if you do the same things it will produce the same results. That's what a seed does. It's to prevent save-scumming. If you still MUST get that BS shot, do something slightly different, like moving to a different piece of cover to reset the seed. And yes, that is fair. How would it be fair if you could just reload a save and give yourself virtually guaranteed success on every action that you do? Please tell me how that's fair in this game.

In preventing save-scumming...they screwed up the game.

If people want to break a game by their own free will, and cheat.....let them. It should roll the dice on each moment of any action....not pre-determine your destiny with a seed generator pre-mission. It's not fair because, even if I had made any other choice, the aliens from the start of the mission ALL know the BEST choice to make. That is unfair. More unfair than people save-scumming. Let them ruin their game's replay value if they want.
WinterMute 0101 26 DIC 2012 a las 23:57
Just wanted to chime in that you talk as if this was a fair fight. But this is a human military group against an alien army with advanced technology. I'm a little surprised you all don't get that?!?

Also, developer diary clealry states they went through and removed things they didnt like. Not what you didn't like, but what they didn't like.

Don't share the same tastes? Well, that's why we have more than one TV channel, why there is not the same restaurant on every corner. People are different.

Your likes are no more important than theirs, mine or that weird looking dude in the corner. However, they happened to be in a position to influence their likes on the game.

Get over yourself, you're one person in 7 Billion+ people. Hate to be the one to tell you, but your parents lied to you, you're not that important.

*sigh* When the hell are people going to see this game for what it is?! I played a lot of XCOM back in the day, and hell, I still do! This game is awesome in its own right. It is no 100% remake, which the devs have stated a thousand ******* times! Sure, it has EXTREMELY annoying features, and some of them I do wish they'd patch away or add some new features (like several dropships). But it isn't a remake! But in all honesty... I love it. I really, really do.

If you want to cheat, get the god characters. RNG ceases to matter when your soldiers have 100 HP and infinite accuracy. Perfect for the new generation of COD players.

Or by just continuesly reloading the same move until the RNG has a roll in your favor... :P

What do you mean "God characters".....you mean veteran soldiers that have been on many, many missions and finally maxed out their skills? (which doesnt give them infinite accuracy, and the extra HP barely helps on harder difficulty)

Or is this an editor cheat or something?
