However, make sure the person you stick into the machine, is some one you really want on the final mission... as you have to take that person, as in you have no choice but to take this person + 5 randoms :P
The gollop triggers when you equip the armor. It should trigger if anyone already has it equipped, but it doesn't.
Well it seems that the game chooses the volunteer on random. I remember Vahlen saying something like "we believe this soldier is able to use the alien device" when I put psi-armor on one of my maxed out psi operatives even though I already had soldiers like that. Also only that one could proceed to the Gollop Chamber.
My last playthrough I had 7 soldiers that could be used for the Gollop Chamber, which coincidentally were all the soldiers in psi armor.
She says that when you equip a soldier with psi armor for the first time after the Gollop Chamber has been finished
