Enemy Within: seperate campaign, or continuation?
Hi, I want to know if this is more of an expansion to your current campaign, or a fresh start. I've already beat Enemy Unknown, and have a save just before the final mission, but it seems like if E.W. works off your existing saves you'd have a vastly different play experience depending on how far through the game you are.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

It's a campaign within a campgain. It adds to the entire campaign, not just a tangent at the end.

Also, you can't use an existing save to play Enemy Within. Changes to the game will probably prevent it from being usable with Enemy Within, so you'll have to start a new campaign. Beside, the new stuff is bing presented right off the bat; Meld Recombination is one of the first things you can research in Enemy Within, alongside Weapon Fragments and Alien Allloys.

A new game is required to access enemy within content.

The enemy within "story" takes place ~mid-late game.

Seems odd to force a fresh start to enjoy DLC, especially if you have to play through all the old content along side it. Unless it's a compleatly seperate NEW campaign...

It's because the all the new content is supposed to be there from the start. You can't have meld appear in middle of a game

New campaign is sort of "side-quest". The main storyline is still going on, but now you got this sideshow demanding your attention.

Unfortunately, Enemy Within - as far as I can tell - is only an add-on, not a continuation of the game. I was disappointed by this as well, hoping that they would've maybe added an extra campaign like some game expansions used to do.

I'm curious to see how they will balance things out in the end. With things like meld, exalt, etc., it seems like there is going to be way too much going on. I already can't research all the stuff in the foundry. :\

Well, there seems to be a big chunk of story sandwich into the mid game with EXALT. They're a paramilitary organization working against you for their own goals. It's supposed to add a couple of horus to the game, which is what an add-on typically does, from my experiences.

Sounds like some overpriced fluff to me.

While I leave the value of it up to the preference of the person, I wouldn't say it's fair to call it "fluff". It adds a whole new class to the game, along with a new way of improving your characters, two new aliens, 50-ish new maps, a new human faction to fight, who also add to the strategic layer of the game, new research options, new foundry projects, new items.

Call it overpriced if you believe it to be, but don't call it fluff. =I

The Enemy within expansion makes changes to the game engine, it dosent just slap on some new content onto the current system, so its understandable that a new game is required.

(Its not just "downloadable content" = dlc, dlc in general do not make changes to the game engine, so please refear to it as a expansion instead).

Definitely NOT overpriced. If anything it's underpriced. Despite the lack of a "continuation", the expansion offers a lot to a game that should've costed more in the first place, but didn't only because it was dangerous territory to make a game for in the first place.

Honestly I feel bad the developers aren't charging another $50 for this. :\ But I know too many people are cheap and would rather spend that money on the next Bioshock game or something. >.>

Day 1 purchase for me. It's exactly the kind of expansion that I wanted. Same game but tons more added to it. If i want a different game/campaign I'll look for a different game, or wait for the sequel. This is the kind of expansion I love.

I'm glad you're happy about the price. I am not happy about it and will be waiting for it to go on sale.

I think the pricing is a simple cash grab on the part of the apparently greedy developers seeking to capitalize on the games unexpected popularity.

Yah okay... >.> These developers are so greedy for making a turn-based strategy game - one of the least popular and most financially risky genre to make a game for in this generation of video games.

Go back to playing your millions of first-person shooters/rpgs/whatever you paid full price for. Clearly these games are not cash-grabs or anything. >.>
