Killer Instinct or Resilience? (enemy within)
I want to do a lot of damage late game with my Assault so Killer Instinct seems perfect but that Resilience seems to good to pass up with immunity to crits. What do you guys think?

Well, I think you answered your own question. It depends on what type of assault you want. If you primarily went down the right side, KI makes sense, but if your assault is more defensive (scout), take Resilience.

make two assaults!

On easier difficulties (Normal or Easy), Killer Instinct is better. On Classic/Impossible, Resilience prevents those nasty crits from happening that can easily one-shot.

On Classic+, always take the defensive skills unless using your Assault for scouting with Ghost Armor/Mimetic Skin, then take Bring Em On because Close Combat Specialist can get you killed.

They have diffrent uses. You generally want resillience assault to tank hits out of cover so other squaddies could reposition safely, it's pretty safe for assault to tank hits out of cover when combined with combat stim.

Thanks for the info guys, im thinking of going with resilience, I also wanted to ask if I should go with Lightning Reflexes or Close and Personal?

Like others have said, it depends on what sort of Assault you're trying to build.

CAP is nice for engaging melee enemies like Chrysalids and Berserkers, or for more aggressive Assault builds when combined with stealth effects for initiating, but bear in mind that it won't work with their signature ability, Run and Gun.

I tend to favour Lightning Reflexes- the ability to soak up potentially destructive Overwatch shots for free is incredibly helpful against hard hitters and the aliens that enter Overwatch upon being triggered.

I agree it is down to personal preference but before they changed the CAP ability it was a no brainer now it is a tough choice mainly for late game.
Early game with thin men Lightning Reflexes is a life saving skill but when you have better equipment and higher ranked soldiers it becomes slightly less important.

What I have found with CAP is you can run (not dash) to a beserker (stay four tiles away) and shoot one shot for free then use rapid fire for a further two free shots (-15 aim) and then with beserker running at you from rage of being hit you get a free shot from Close Combat Specialist. So effectively you get four shots on one guy. Even when not faced with a beserker you get three plus effectively a free overwatch if your setup in the right place to ambush moving aliens (example at a door).

Now if only they had changed the support soldiers smoke grenade ability so it didn't give you +20 will as its kinda useless with the new gene mods and I never took it before anyway so it could have used a change.

I deffo struggle with Lightning Reflexes and CAP now and I think it should be that way with all the abilities :D

I think the Will smokes only exist for people who want to Mind Control Ethereals for the achievement.

Oh, and I disagree about Lightning Reflexes becoming less important later in the game; if anything, it becomes more valuable. Aliens that activate Overwatch as soon as you see them become more and more common as the game goes on, and they also tend to be the ones that hit the hardest. It also allows your other troops to approach more easily on the first turn the group is triggered, giving you more aggressive plays overall.

There's generally no reason to have two people with LR in one squad, though, so if you have two Assaults then get CAP with one of them.
WarLust Nov 27, 2013 @ 1:44am
Yeah, don't tell me LR gets useless towards end game bc that is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Say that when you have a Mectoid or Sectopod OW on your ass. You'll beg for LR then..

I use an offensive build on rifle assaults and defensive for shotguners that might get flanked or trigger extra alien pods.

I don't recall using the word useless in regards to Lightning Reflexes But I find with titan armour amongst other things and a colonel assault with resilience it is not as important. They can take hits and then with the added shot/s can kill the enemy right away. Sometimes a good offence is the best defence. I always move with assaults first or mecs so the rest of the team moving into overwatch is never an issue for me.

Up to you how you play of course :D

going to the honest, to me NOTHING matches 'I Don't get crtically hit.' Nothing. Maby, MABY if it was that or Lightning Reflexes I would have a devils choise to make. But nothing else comes close to the sheer surviviability that Resilance gives you. Killer Instinct is more damage, if I critical, on shots made during a turn I used an ability on a recharge timer. Sure it has it's uses I imagine, but thus far there's never been a time where I went 'damn if only I had more critical hit damage!' compared to 'damn if only I hadn't been critically hit!'

the new close and personal is good, hell, its killing potential is good enough that I really do want to take it on someone to get one epic 'unreal tourniment killing spree' story with. But Lightning Reflexes is good for both the individual and the squad. Now if Close and Personal worked with Run and Gun, I would be truely torn, the killing power of CaP with RaG would be shocking, limited more by your ammo then anything else. I would be forced to have it on some of my assault soldiers then. But as it is, it's stuck fighting one of the three 'must have' abilitys in the game to me.
Sniper's Squad Sight, Lightning Reflexes, Resilance.
Honerable mention for Bullet Swarm. I would not want to be the poor abiltiy matched up to that on the tree.

Personally, I find holo-targeting more effective than bullet swarm.
