Best class for Covert Ops?
Hey guys,

I was wondering what your thoughts were on which class is best to send on Covert Ops? The only one I have tried so far is a mid lvl Assault Class. He has Lightning Reflexes so he's hard to pin down, and Run & Gun so he can get a shot off or go on Overwatch after dashing.

Snipers might also be cool if you gave them Gunslinger so they could actually pack a punch with that sidearm, but I haven't tested that out yet.

What have you used?

Mimetic skin sniper or support. Run to the objectives, either blocking EXALT their hacks permantently or just rush to the hack objects completly unopposed.

After finishing off exalt I will say it doesnt really seem to matter. I usually sent a sniper (with gunslinger and headshot) but my regular six man squad was so beast there was almost no point to really use em. I tried a few diff classes, a support and an assault (support is nice for extra medkits (if you have a 6 man squad unlocked already, then the operative you send becomes your SEVENTH soldier lol.) and the assault of course for run and gun/lightning reflexes. I did one inside of a garage and I think that was actually the only time I resorted to using him (or her rather). Just put her on the roof (gene mods ftfw) and pecked at the enemy from up high. I mean shes rocking a friggin pistol vs. laser weapons, no need to put her in harms way with a toothpick for defense! The majority of the time she was hiding somewhere in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ corner!

A sniper at first is probably best, but after a while it won't really matter who you send as the rest of your squad kicks ass. Plus it'll get to a point where your sniper is so god-like that you'd want to have them in the squad, rather than doing meh damage with a pistol and no armor.

Anyone with Mimetic Skin works. With the Pistol they don't do much damage anyways and they are quite squishy with no armor. I usually use a random Sniper since i have so many of them.

Equip him with both Chitin Plating and Nanofiber Vest so he has more health incase he gets hit.
But with Mimetic Skin you can keep him stealthed for the whole run if you want to.

support with +3 move and mimetic skin

I use a Gunslinger Sniper with Mimetic Skin. He never gets seen and he can one shot Exalts with his pistol.

Mimetic Skin sounds pretty strong... building my Gene Lab now so I'll have to give that a spin. (I went with MEC first.) I'll definitely give the Sniper and a +3 Move Support a shot as well. Thanks for the advice everyone!

If you use training roulette i guess you could make a gene-moded sniper with gunslinger, deep pockets, grenadier and sprint. (Sniper simply becuse they gain more aim then the other classes).

(Why grenadier you may ask: Grenadier makes you able to carry 2 grenades and its been improved beyond that in enemy within, now needle, alien and frag grenades also do +1 damage with that perk).

(Grenadier combined with deep pockets and tactical rigging from the foundry should allow your agent to carry 6 damage dealing grenades that do +1 damage).

I've used an assault quite a lot, but I tend to just throw a squaddie with high aim into the covert missions, as I have better uses for my other soldiers. However, I like the idea of developing a sniper with gunslinger just for covert ops. In my last few covert missions, I had a PSI assault on the missions and that worked out quite nicely.

I like Assault because Run and Gun allows you to dash to a terminal and still be able to hack it, whereas other classes would have to wait until next turn. This can be a real life saver!
Mimetic Skin is phenomenal if you can afford to put it on. Also, I like Boosted Muscle Fiber legs so he can get around easier or just get on to a roof and stay out of trouble until the main squad can get to him.

A sniper with gunslinger is apparently very effective at turning your covert agent into a soldier on the field, giving you an extra bit of damage where needed.

Support with the sprint for more movement, and ideally mimetic skin so it can hide until the squad reaches it. Carry Medkit as item so you can be useful healing. Though you probably wont have to since Exalt suck lol.

I've been using Supports so far, mainly because of Sprinter. I considered using a Gunslinger Sniper at first for the extra damage, but so far in all my EXALT missions my agent has barely fired a shot, and has been used instead for hacking. As such, mobility is key - let your regular soldiers worry about killing the enemies. And mimetic skin seems like it's going to make these missions even easier than I'm already finding them.

I used a sniper. I think anyone will work fine.
achus93 Nov 19, 2013 @ 10:36am
although i prefer using snipers, i think the better question is "which G-Mod is better suited for covert ops",
and from my experience that would be: Depth Perception, Mimetic Skin and Muscle Fiber Density...
