Pacific Rim = XCOM

I just saw Pacific Rim movie and it was effing awesome (exept for the sword part that they should've pulled out from the beginning instead of using a ship as a stick). Anyways, Firaxis should make a game using the Pacific Rim universe where you build and maintain a base around the pacific shore (ie Hawaii, San Francisco, Panama, Manila, Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney, Shanghai etc). From there you maintain your Jaegers and fight a small group of Kaijus. As you protect cities the you receive funding from the United Nations, and depending on your performance they may increase or pull out. As you fight, pilots earn combat experience, and Jaegers powers up by researching more attachments to it. Then you salvage Kaiju remains and sell it on the black market to get more funding or do research on the remains to expose weakness so Jaegers can deal more damage.

Sounds like XCom mechanics. Yes it is... It is just my wild idea... I've been an XCom fan since the 90's and I still play them to this day, (I kinda hate Terror From the Deep because it is so infuriatingly difficult even on easy mode.)

Terror's Fog of war and unfamiliar underwater landscape made it great. Thats actually what I might like to see in EU next... underwater missions? Reduced movement due to well.. water.. much lower limited visibility... oh yeah...

they couldn't pull that at the beginning - that's one of the upgrades made in that five-year timeskip.

Nitpicking aside, I'd love a giant-robot-based XCOM-type game.

I honestly didn't think much of Pacific Rim. It was an okay movie, but didn't live upto all the hype around it. Felt like i was watching a movie of the movel MM9 (Which is what inspired the movie i bet) by Hiroshi Yamamoto, with a bit of Independance Day mixed into it for good measure.

Probably because i read the MM9 book first (which is awesome) but the movie just didn't have the feel or atmosphere it needed.

Ellen McLain(Glados in portal) have a scene in Pacific Rim where she's spoke in a voice of Glados. Yup, Del Toro used the original Voice actress from the game in the movie :D
