Skipping laser weapons, yes or no?
I remember doing this on my second playthrough of EU and I'm wondering if its still worth it in EW. I know that its a big uphill battle to work your way up to that point but I'm wondering if anyone has tried it, is it still viable in EW?

I will be trying this tactic myself, I did it in EU everytime, so would be nice if anyone tried to see if it was still viable.

you can upgrade you basic weapons with a new type of ammo so yeah you can skip the laser if you want.

oh? what do you have to reserach specifically? I got all the way up to like the 3rd month and didn't notice something like that. Then again I was really aloof and mostly just messing around on normal.

The ammo doesn't make ammo weapons superior to laser weapons. You trade accuracy and range for damage. They are called reaper rounds.
In response to your original question, rush arc thrower and try and taze some mutons or thin men.

Is this still a valid strategy ? I wonder myself because I can research beam weapons 2 days sooner than light plasma rifle so in that case it is a good idea ? besides, I think it's easier on easy or normal than on classic/impossible (research is longer if I remember well) ?

PS : reaper rounds take one item slot but yes, on sniper, it's damned lethal

Laser weapons are cheaper and better than normal rounds.

Plasma weapondry ...is better but more expensive I can outfit my whole squad with the cost of like a single gun. Depending on engineers of course.

On the lower difficulties sure skip lasers. on the higher difficulties Lasers make killing Mutons alot easier and other things the game throws at you.

I mean you can skip lasers and just get them from EXALT I suppose but thats like 2 months after when I normally get lasers.

its a time and cost thing.

Beam weapons gets you a laser for your flying unit. (with heavy lasers) which upgrades your air game) a pistol upgrade and a rifle upgrade.

but lets do rifle to rifle. its $25 12 alloy and 12 engineers for laser and Plasma is
§300 40 Elerium 50 Alloys 20 Engineers

and you want to steal those, fine but you can't steal snipers and shotguns. and really those are what matters, and you can't afford to make plasma until later.

so damn well make the laser weapons.

hard to beat
+10 to all laser weapons or just some ? the light plasma rifle has also +10 aim (and I have 3 of them already).

Who is happy and why are you quoting them.

In long war all lasers have +7 aim and +7 on carbines.

otherwise its only on light plasma rifles.

well I quote Happy because he says that laser has +10 aim and I answer him about this.

but he didn't post in this thread... so I was asking for context.

Well that's weird, perhaps he has deleted his post, if not, I wonder how I found his post ^^;

Well I've got some new laser weaponry from exalt (like 3 precision laser and 3 heavy laser) too bad they need laser weaponry unlocked before using them...well when you have develloped better weapons (like plasma), it would be logical that you can use laser as well, well not at all...seems I will be searching for beam weapons then.

A very tough one; rushing for plasma weaponry is great, but it is not easy to tactically cover for the lack of heavy lasers for MECs and interceptors for quite some time during the mid-game period. Thus, I'd rather go with the lasers, unless I managed to stun a ridiculous number of aliens, so my armoury is full of ready-to-use plasma assault and light plasma rifles.

In Vanilla EU & EW it's very doable on Classic (I do it all the time), but not practical on Impossible.
