What the hell is up with the Outsider?

I haven't player XCOM in a while so I thought it would be a good time to start a new game with the expansion. I choose Classic difficulty on Ironman. Everything goes well until I shoot down my first UFO. I clear out the Sectoids then move out to the chashed ship. I get my whole A-team wiped out by the Outsider. He one-shot each of my guys even if they are at long range in heavy cover without missing. I think I just had some bad luck so I restart a new game, same settings and the same thing happens.

What is going on? Is it bugged? I don't remember having any trouble whit these guys in vanilla XCOM.

Looks like you better turn down the difficulty..or at least give yourself the opportunity to save for multiple tries at the mission.

Outsider is easily one of the most dangerous enemies you can meet early on. He isn't that tough, but he is an even better shot then Thinmen, so you need to take him out before he takes you out. But you should know where he is found, so all you have to do is make sure you got your team ready for him when you scout him out.

Ok I got the Outsider this time. He killed my heavy whom I gave a +5 def medal and was hiding behind a tree(heavy cover) in the frist turn I saw him. I then took him out with a headshot from my sniper. Unfortunately, my team was wiped out by thin men 3 missions later. I was moving forward sticking to heavy cover but it didn't matter to them. They even hit my panicking recruit that hunkered down behind a tank. I'm guessing they boosted plasma weapon accuracy to balance against all the new stuff unless I'm just really unlucky today.

The 'Outsider' was always strong. I think you got a bit unlucky on this one. Usually the best is to try to ambush him around corners in the ship (if you can by using a second soldier he cannot see in overwatch for example) or use explosives/snipers while sacrificing a rookie ?

Rocket the Outsider. Works all the time.

Just Run and Gun behind him with an assault. Works every time, most of the time.

Nade the asshat, not worth the alien weapons if it keeps killing your men.
