At some point in the last twelve months modern gamers bought and played XCOM. Despite being pretty wishy washy as these things go the difficulty and non-certain gameplay was a bit of a shock to all those silly scrublings; they`d never played a game that was`nt designed to make them win.
So this spread among the scrublings and epeens were stroked by all. Everytime somone got angry or pissed from RNG screw - and posted about it - the scrublings would gleefully chant "That`s XCOM baby", blissfully unaware that the traits they believe to be so unique are in fact found in a great number of games, games they never played because they are after all scrublings.
And this dumb, ridiculous forced meme was spread far and wide, and more... experienced dwellers of the internet threw up in their mouth a little every time some sad little scrubling goes "That`s XCOM baby" like it`s some great and unique thing.
So there`s the one and only instance of the "That`s XCOM baby" moment, for it is always the same one. At best it is satire of humanity itself. At worst it`s a dumb thing ignorant people spout.
...I`d say that`s pretty laughable.
I rolled double 1's.
Should I yell: "That's XCOM baby!" ?
NO! FFS! GROW UP ALREADY! >.>
Wow, and here I thought the internet actually had the capability for decency, XCom EU, even on Impossible is not the hardest game I've beaten, it's just glitchy and often times doesn't make sense. Having two Sectopods just randomly appear in the middle of your squad shouldn't happen, that's worth an 'that's Xcom baby' because it helps deal with the fact that it isn't a perfect game atnd that you instead view it as a challenge to be beaten, teleporting Sectopods, ridiculous Panicking actions, randomly exploding vehicles, and grenades that fall through the ground included.
Thr trolls are here! Run!!!
Remember gang,dont feed the trolls
THAT'S XCOM BABY!
THAT'S XCOM BABY!
And don't mind hghwolf, he's always an ass, and he's totally full of himself (just look at his name).
So basically, my friend was really liking the game. He had created his squad after his personal friends and he really, really cared for them. He ended up going through the whole game save scumming so none of his units would die because he just loved them that much. And he was in one of those moments in the "XCOM difficulty wave" where everything was going great and he was laughing in the face of his enemies. He had Laser rifles, his squad had quite a few battles under their belts so they had a few levels and the enemies he had to face never gave him any real trouble. And he kind of decided to dump grenades at that point because, screw it, his guys had no trouble blasting away Sectoids and Thin Men with their guns anyway.
So I'm listening to him playing and it went a bit like this:
My friend: "Oh, that's cute, more Thin Men. Come at me bro, my guys are pretty much the earthly manifestation of God. *2 minutes later* And they're all dead. Man, that was easy. *a few seconds later* Wait, what are those green guys in armor?"
Tripas: *to myself* (Oh, this is going to be fun
My friend: "They've killed two of my guys already! And the rest are going into panic! Oh God, they killed another one. What do I DO?"
Tripas: "Well, maybe if you hadn't left those grenades back at the base you could blow their cover or something ;) ."
My friend: "Shut up
I guess that moment really earns a "that's XCOM, baby" :) .
Oh, and for those of you who are now really wishing some kind of karmic balance for me drawing so much amusement from my friend's misery (and also to add my own ultimately futile attempt to shut up the damned "the RNG cheats" crowd), I kind of had my own moment of rage at the roll of die when I played multiplayer against this friend of mine, MCd his Heavy, lined him two tiles away from his Support who was almost dead, I had a a 98% chance to hit, I fired... and MISSED. The damned units were so close they could pretty much snif each other's air and the damned Heavy just fired into the air!
I MIGHT have raged and ranted for quite a while after that...
During alien turn, one of the two soldiers with the sectopod panics, shoots at his team mate, nearly kills him, in return that soldier panics and kills the soldier that shot him. sectopod shoots at the soldier that was alive and kills him. Muton elites kill my medic. 3/6 soldiers died in a single turn.
