Yep. His first time meeting Mutons and it got burned into his memory as one of those moments when you go from "on top of the world" to "I want my mommy" in less than a minute.
By the way...what is the origin of that expression "that's Xcom baby" ? From the achievment ?
It's just something that XCOM fans say whenever the game screws them over, in a "yeah, that was annoying but you know that's how the game works" kind of way. And no, it didn't come from the Civilization V achievement, it's been around for ages and CiV just kind of made that joke since they implemented an XCOM unit.
Mainly useful for when the aliens patrol into you. if you want to shoot unaware aliens out of cover its better to use a stealth unit and squadsight. or a battlescanner.
dunno if I have a really recent that's xcom moment because I've been playing long war not ironman because longwar is bugged a bit. and most of the stuff I'd say this about I have to attribute to its bugs. For instance I've never resisted being mind controlled. ever. and when I get the guy back he has no will. so I assume its a bug that reduces his will to 0 when Mind controlled and takes effect before it checks to see if the mind control worked.
There is a tale I suppose. OK so I'm doing this landed abductor in long war. and everything is in the front of the ship apparently. various pods. I run into a somewhat nasty pod with mectoids and sectoid commanders, use ghost grenades to fix my cover, and I move my guy with the stunner up to hope to catch the commander. he mind controls one of my assaults causing the ghosted stunner unit to panic. and run forward to cover.
Does not decloak I take a BUNCH of shots 77% chance to kill+ on the sectoid commander but he does not die then he runs off. I send my stealth unit up and hide behind some heavy cover corner. (still wanted to stun and only had 63% chance to kill or something and was out of stun range.
Meantime the assault is causing problems mainly running up to people and just standing there ominously reloading his shotgun. and I got stuff pouring over the wall into view flanking me I gotta take down. which If I kill the sectoid and don't kill them would leave them out of cover....anyways I eventually realize my ghosted unit up front can fire and not worry about leaving cloak because thats XCOM. and just kill the commander. when I finally get the assault back though his gun was empty.
Meh I can probably think of a better story, of some botched supply ship raid. But I've since realized they just aren't worth the trouble of doing.
Sectoid proceeds to shoot V.I.P from around 15 tiles away.
Hit's the V.I.P Crtical hit 9 damage, even though the V.I.P was behind full cover and using "Head down"... So... Yeah... That happened.
"That's XCOM baby!"
My favorite moment.
A night time map in my first TFTD playthorugh (and many since) Guys have all rolled out and explored about two thirds of the map finding nothing. When suddenly you hear the shuffle shuffle and the sound of one of your men dying horribly and then more shuffle shuffle. Your turn and you scan round the map but all you can find is a corpse. This continues a few turns until suddenly with half your team dead or panicing you see it, LOBESTERMAN. This follows by unloading everything you have only to watch the monstrosity keep coming.
Thats XCOM BABY.
VIP Mission on Enemy Within, the one where you had to escort the military survivor. Stretched my roster thin from trying to tackle Impossible Ironman like a sap. Had to send in only one good soldier, an Assault Col. with low profile and miametic skin thanks to training roulette.
Everything is by the numbers and going fine, did this mission a hundred times...
Then one of my men gets panicked from being poisoned and caused a chain reaction of panick from panick firing. Everyone is spraying their guns, hunkering down, crying like babies after shooting each other for god knows what reason. The VIP died in the panick fire, i'm face palming so hard and my Assault Col. had to pull everyone back together.
As soon as I got back to base, I removed the names of those foolish freaking soldiers, gave them red cloathing, called them all Meat and sent them to newfoundland once it came up.
Got the mission done, but there were five soldiers MIA...hehehe...
