XCOM: Enemy Unknown
How the heck do you collect meld on classic setting?!
I'm playing on normal right now and often find it hard to reach 1 of the 2 melds before they 'expire.' Other than that normal seems too easy.

Meld was designed to be a challenge to collect, force you out of cover and into the sights of your enemies.Basically an evil siren you should either collect only when safe or willing to sacrifice lives if neccisary to collect. Their temptation is great and I have lost many soldiers in my greed even when I had no need for the Meld.

Even on I/I you can get all the meld you need by only getting "easy picks". You only need to get 2-3 canisters a month in march/april.
take more or bigger chances and remember to save ofthen

I play ironman, and doing the whole save and reload if things don't go my way takes the fun out of the game imo.
Watch Zemalf's X-COM Enemy Within Let's Play on Youtube. He is doing Ironman Impossible a and having no problem dominating the game. Watch and learn.
Mimetic skin is your friend so is low profile.Just remember about moving when you can be seen.
Getting Meld during the beginning of the game cn be risky. Usually there is one Meld within range for you to collect quite reasonably. So you can get 10 Meld per mission without taking too much risk.

Playing on Ironman will put you through a bit of risk management. Most of the time you can shave off a turn with your first move since there is "usually" no Alien within the landing area. Risky but within acceptable range, especially if you can find high cover for your scout.

Although the meld canisters can be destroyed, they make great cover.

I don't prioritize meld "at all". There's little benefit by the end-game imo.

Until you get mimetic skin, you just treat them as "opportunity objectives". At least, this is what I do on C/I.
On normal, you should not have much problem. Just finish the mission quickly.

I have to disagree, on Classic I would be the most aggressive at the beginning collecting MELD. Once you have additional resources, one Mimetic skin soldier and one MEC things get much easier. Better to tough it out early on and then move into the mid game with a strong footing.

Food for thought :D

The change from normal to classic is marginal. Same things die in the same amount of shots so their increase in hp doesnt matter. Classic to impossible is exactly that, impossible. Thin men alone have 6 hp when youre still not even close to beam, their aim is ridiculous and they pretty much always crit, even when you are above them and in full cover, one shot from each wipes your squad. Game is not fun on impossible, strategy is out the window, out flanking your emeny will still result in death.
I'm playing my last run on I/I with 16/21 second wave options on, and I can assure you it's far from not-fun or devoid of strategy.
I'm playing on classic, shooting for Army of four and haven't missed too many MELD canisters, about three so far I think. I'm about to finish up my MECs and then I'll be free to start giving my soldiers all the Gene Mods I want.
I play with variable stats, choose the soldiers I like and customize them, and the ones that I don't like get dressed in bright cheerful PINK uniforms that draw the eye (and hopefully enemy fire) in any environment. If a soldier is a weak-willed potato-person, if he can't hit the broad side of a barn, or if he runs slower than a garden slug, he becomes a pinky.

Pinkies can be very useful for gathering meld cannisters. They're cheaper to replace than expensive and useful shivs, so I just happily send them sprinting around the map looking for cannisters while my professional soldiers take it slow and steady. Sometimes I even chuckle when they get vaped by the enemy.
Coordinated and well-planned movement. You don't exactly have to take insane risks to get one out of two canisters per mission, and leapfrogging your guys in case somebody wakes something up minimizes odds of aliens getting shots off.

Mind you, if you want both canisters you're going to have to take a couple risks.

Alternatively you can basically do whatever you want with an Alloy Shiv.
