How the heck do you collect meld on classic setting?!
I'm playing on normal right now and often find it hard to reach 1 of the 2 melds before they 'expire.' Other than that normal seems too easy.

Until you get mimetic skin, you just treat them as "opportunity objectives". At least, this is what I do on C/I.
On normal, you should not have much problem. Just finish the mission quickly.

Normal/ironman, im at the part where you build the key to the secret alien base, but I think I'll start over and play classic.

don't prioritise Meld unless you're sure of your squad,
only go for Meld when you know it's safe, otherwise deal with the aliens first...

i "cheat" in a little way by taking the Melt tutorial option, so u ever get the 2 Melt canisters for nearly free, becasue they tutorial map is very easy, mostly i bridge the time till my first mimetic assautl as harvester with my MECs, they dont profit from cover, so they just walz in, take the canister, than stand & fight or run back if to much opposition (ever use close combat MECs, as a sideeffect of there weapon they can move more tiles) . that not even flaws my strategie, becasue till sayed mimetic assault the 2 MECs ever the ones who scout new territory.

I dont rush and thats why I miss the meld a lot. usually my squad comes back with 0 damage.

The jump in difficulty on classic from normal is huge. It is not only that you get weaker, it is also that the aliens get stronger. Carefully, Carefully, Carefully...

I never beat the game on classic, in part that I play on ironman, but with the new expansion I went back to normal to learn. Normal is very boring vs classic imo.

I always play on Classic/Ironman(Unless I achieve-hunting some very time-consuming achievements that you can get on Normal) and I agree with you :). When I get the remaining achievements, I will take the big step to Impossible/Ironman. I have yet to master the tactics of that difficulty setting ;).

What I luv about classic/ironman is it very much brings back the feeling that not all your squad is going to make it through this, you're going to lose countries, and 'game over' could be one wrong move.

EDIT: or even the 'right' moves don't mean you're safe.

You can get at least one on Classic and if not reaching the other, blow it up.
Whatever.

I just got 2 in a mission but 1-2 rookies dies almost every mission so far.

The best course of action in the first months is to only get the meld if it is near your path, but carefully. If you use explosives, you will end the first missions quickly enough to retrieve the first 6 canisters(which are the most important if you want to rush MECs) easily.

Yeah, I hate using explosives but it seems like the only way to keep a rookie squad alive.

Indeed.

It is useful for a first run through to sort out tactics and get the lay of the land on certain missions rather than hit a huge roadblock on ironman.

I actually rinsed this on xbox (made a nice change to shooting and I could use my big tv) so just about to complete my first ironman classic on PC, fingers crossed ;)

Last mission is a 'mother.' Good luck.
