Yeah I don't think video card drivers are going to help in a situation caused by the developers coding. I am using up to date video card drivers, its still a problem in the game, I see the issue every play through. It was a problem 2 years ago with up to date video card drivers then, It was a problem with windows 7 and 8 and 8.1 with this game. In the past this issue persisted whether I used used drivers from Guru3d.com or from my card makers website. I am not even using any of the same hardware I had when the game first came out.
I've never had it happen and I've played hundreds of hours. I assume its due to your specs over anything else. but since he didn't POST them I can't even tell if they MEET the game's specs.
Had some pretty squirelly things happen, started playing EU and it IS far more buggy over EW.
Had my first mission.... and it activated the wrong pod. Never had that happen before. it just there are 2 pods of sectoids. and the one I didn;t see activated, then next turn because you know I saw they other pod, it activates, but that activated every enemy on the map.
UPDATE: Speak of the devil

I am playing the game again now that I know this bug is still there, I keep 5-6 saves in the main base, and 10+ of whatever level I am on. I also always save as soon as the mission starts, not because I care if I lose troops, but because if I forget to save enough I end up losing a few hours worth.
Well Red255 your lucky in my opinion if you have never encountered this issue as everyone I have talked to on my friends list who owns the game knows about this bug. It used to happen to me multiple times every time I played.
Since your wondering the specs on my machine:
I7 4960x 3.6 ghz (6 core, 12 logical and not overclocked)
Asus P9X79 WS mobo
Adata DDR3 2400 PC3-19200 16gb (running at stock speeds, not overclocked to 2400mhz)
256gb Adata SX900 SSD (primary hdd) 550mbs/w 530mbs/r
Evga geforce 580GTX (aging but certainly sufficient for this game, if not most games. Including skyrim with 4k textures and 200+ mods, mostly graphical ones)
I also have a Cooler Master HAF case, whether over clocked or stock, with mechanical fans motherboard temp never rises past 28 celcius, and cpu never gets hotter than 31 celcius at stock, 34 celcius overclocked.
Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
Normally, a squad-sight sniper cannot move and then fire or go into overwatch with her sniper rifle. So. You move the sniper. Switch her weapon to pistol. Put her on overwatch. Which ends her turn. (Make sure the sniper is not the last soldiers in your squad to end a turn.)
Then, you click on the sniper to select her again. You can switch her weapon back to sniper rifle. Now she is on overwatch with her sniper rifle.
Apparently it is a programming oversight that has been around since day 1, but the developer has never bothered to fix it.
