well, you only have 100% on the first mission if everyone survives. It's not that hard to achieve, but I'd rather make sure and download the commander's choice mod from nexus. It lets you choose the class you want for your soldiers. It works well in long war, never used it in vanilla.

A Rookie's promotion to Squaddie grants them a random class. The class chosen is influenced by what your roster already is. The less you have of a certain type, the more likely you are to get it. The "New Guy" upgrade from the Officer Training School will make Rookies into Squaddies. If you save before purchasing the upgrade, you can keep reloading until a solider is what you want them to be.

or you can just hire a stack of them at a time and trim those who are the wrong class and has poor stats. By the time you get that upgrade you should have more than enough cash

In vanilla you have to work around the system to get the class you want.

In my experience, best to always take two rookies with you, if you take one you risk falling in to the issue that the game thinks you need a heavy (for example) and will keep giving the rookie that class (had this in the past where I had to reload over 10 times as I had few heavies)..

In any event, save at the end of the last mission, and keep reloading form there until you get the class you want (as said by Randy above)..

There are also "cheats" where you can type in a certain name to enhance a soldier but it already need to be that class so it doesnt really help. There is a guide for it

I wouldn't recommend any mods or cheats that let you select classes. Play the game the way it was meant to be played and you will get several of each class that you need.

Yea I am just playing Vanilla as is.But I will reload when I lose an important soldier.

Most of us reload if we lose a critical soldier (whether we admit it or not). There's no right or wrong way to play this :)
