Meld: getting yourself killed quickly
Does anyone have suggestions on how (in classic or impossible difficulty) to get meld in time without getting yourself killed. I feel like survival is a matter of patience... but meld changes all that. You can't get a bunch of cloaked soldiers later on if you don't get the meld early on. And yet, if I try to rush in for the meld, everybody just dies.

What do you who play classic (especially on ironman) do to get meld and live? Someone should write a guide on this.

Install the mod that removes meld canisters. You then get all the meld from alien salvage and can play the game normally as if they didn't exist. The game is a lot more fun without these stupid things in it. Once you patch that in, you'll probably never want to take it back out.

Support. Sprinter perk + skeleton suit = 18 mobility. That's a lot. You can get the meld behind enemy lines if you're close enough and move back safely.
A bit riskier is assault, but you can get the meld even if it's pretty far if you activate run & gun. It's useful if you have 1 turn left before the meld self destructs, vvhich happens a lot of times.

You could also try ghost grenades to conceal your soldier going for the meld, so you don't have to vvorry about his safety.
Don't get yourself killed over Meld. It's not worth it. Get it when it's easy to get, let it go when it's not. You do not need to get both cannisters on every single mission.

in the early phase MECs are the best Melt catchers. later when u have u first assault with mimetic, melt canister are easy to get as long u fond them fast enove. not to forget enhanced Cybernetic enemy units give a little Melt too.

most aliens won t move if you ve set two overwatches

use overwatch and supression, whenever you run with your meld seeker, only do it to reach full cover and have a smoke grenade ready

On classic ironman I have no trouble getting most of the meld. Did miss a couple cans early on I suppose, but yeah, I suppose a player who thinks he NEEDS mimetic skin would have trouble.

Strats? um. get some carapace armor and precision lasers send your mec forward and gun the things he reveals down with your squadsight snipers.

theres only like 10 enemies on most maps. 2 snipers can take care of 6 of them in 3 turns.

Unfortunately, it's not compatible with Long War.

I don't know why they put this stupid, gamey mechanic in.

Meld is an optional objective and not required to win the campaign, neither are MECs and Gmods.Standard troops/equipment does just fine.

Take your time, nobody is forcing you to rush but yourself.

Meld should just be given to players for merely completing a mission at no extra risk ?

Seems a lacklustre feature to me.... bordering as bad a s aresource hack. lol

To make you vary up your tactics by having to choose between a slow, careful approach and a faster, riskier one with more reward. Instead of just going with slow and careful for every mission.
