Tile Scanning
I would like to hear from the community their opinion of tile scanning and whether or not some people think it is an "exploit" in single player or not. Please feel free to express your opinions freely. Thank you.

No such thing as an exploit in SP - these things only matter in MP.

whats this? checking the movement area to find enemies you can't see? or looking in the fog for meld?

Both are exploits

SP, no such thing as an exploit. Do what you want.

This is war men! There are no 'exploits'. War is never far and neither is tile scanning.

*puts on shades*

deal with it

It is an exploit if you feel that it is. Just like abusing certain AI limitations.

I've stopped doing it, but it is something that is sometimes impossible to avoid. Especially with Seekers. The way the game is made makes it hard to not use, so what the heck, gridsurf away.

I have a suggestion how how this could potentially be removed or at least tuned down a lot: If a tile is occupied in the FOW, your soldier is shown to be able to take that tile - but if you make a move order to said tile, you will not be able to move there. That way you cannot scan the FOW, since ordering a move on a non-occupied tile would result in a (probably terrible) move. Finding Aliens in the FOW would then be a matter of dumb luck, and this is XCOM so I personally have no problems with that.

I don't know if it's moddable, but it would be suave if it was.

I mostly use such a "tile scanning" thing to find seeker in the first months. After that, I tend to have scanners that become necessary to rocket groups of 4 flying seekers.

Rocket seekers? they only do like 2 damage except the boss. the boss seeker can be a pain but the regulars, if they don't flank you are not a threat. Fine to drop 2 with my gunner and 2 with my infantry.
Personally to me, any and all advantages you can get in xcom are a welcome in SP. Although soem may frown upon using it in MP, which works out fine for me since I only play SP xcom classic ironman. I do not consider it an exploit, since if it is in the game, you can use it. It is not like you are using it to troll other people in MP, so I am fine with it. Interesting that some people think it is an exploit. Thanks for the feedback folks.
