Rocket Launcher on Classic misses WAY~~~ TOO OFTEN
So I'm playing on classic and the rocket launcher, despite "being 90%" misses WAY TOO OFTEN. And I have no idea why the rocket launcher misses in the first place.... It has a long barrell, you take time with the shot... it shouldn't "go wide" and blow up like 30meters to the right

EDIT: So I was "this is BS" and re-loaded that turn just to rocket. I missed 5 times in a row... How does this missing work....?!?!?! Is it related to your position? Or is it fixed that at a certain turn you will miss that rocket?

From my understanding, unless you're using the "Save Scum" second wave option saving and reloading a game does nothing. Kind of. If you save, move soldier A to spot B and use ability C, and reload and do the same actions, you will get the same result. If you move Soldier A to Spot D and use Ability Q instead it will change the outcome. The math that determines an action's outcome is already saved into your game at that point, and the only way to change it is to do something different.

Also, having fired a few RPG's in my time in the army, I don't see the rocket missing as being too off. They're heavy, the aiming system is awkward to say the least, and the recoil from firing it was more than enough to put me on my ass a few feet back from where I started (I'm kinda a lightweight). Xcom giving rockets a base 90% chance to hit is hilariously erring on the side of the player.

...Yeah. Firaxis doesn't appreciate people seeing 90% odds and just loading when they don't roll the way they want them to.

that said. you could take a different action then shoot your rocket supposedly and it might roll differently.

THAT said I was playing impossible in EU, got my first terror mission on that broken highway map (L shaped roadway) Brought 2 heavies Fired alot of rockets. killed alot of civilians with 'shot wide' It was amazing. KIlled pretty much everything really, cars being the only cover in those sort of maps, shot wide kills the cars which kills the aliens.

your issue why you missed 5x in a row is the preseeded random numbers generation. thus taking the same actions will give the same result. if that is how you are playing, then it might be intresting to set your troopers in postion closer to an alien and let them take the really bad roll on thier turn perhaps.

I actually just aimed LEFT of where I wanted it to be, and voila! Dead aliens.

Yeah, I suspected some form of preseeded random number generator, and I'm not the type who normally reloads games just because I made a mistake, but these rockets missing was pretty irritating haha

The thing is a miss is a miss is a miss, and I miss way too often, damn it!. Last night the alien was right in front of me, 98% chance to hit and she missed!?!?

How could you possibly completely miss especially when shoothing a sawed off shotgun? It is impossible, a blind man could hit it as long as he was pointed in the right direction.

Well think about it, at close range all it takes is a twitch to miss.

Thing is though a sawed off shotgun has no choke to tighten the shot pattern. A shotgun shell has lots of shot pellets so at close range, as in one step away from you, it would be nearly impossible to completely miss the target. Some of the pellets would hit unless your gunner is a total idot and points the gun the wrong way...it should have been at least a partial hit.

Well it depends on the shotgun shell. If it's 00 buck there's really not that many pellets, and against aliens quite a few of them would have to hit to do any significant damage. If it's a slug, well there you go, all it takes is a twitch to hit.

It's not birdshot. Birdshot has a lot of pellets but it's comparatively weak even if all the pellets hit.

a partial hit is probably not enough to do damage though. and people would complain about their 100% chance to hit shot being absorbed by DR.

Never really used the sawed off, well once, until I found its range was unuable and it slowed you down like 2. its basically a melee weapon for people who can't move.

I find it useful for scouts. The range really needs to be increased to 2 though, otherwise it's useless on enemies directly opposite your cover. I wonder if the range can be modified.

A rocket miss is the most demoralizing thing in the game. The ONLY reason you bring a rocket troopie is for the OMG i see all red on my screen moments. Your ace in the hole will help you solve that problem. And when it misses.......well your heart sinks, your eyes water and you just stare at the screen for 3 minutes:(

Rockets? they damage the goods that you want to collect. why would you ever even consider using them?

Becaue no amount of weapon fragments is worth losing a soldier ? Because you don`t actually have to use them to kill the enemy ?

How the hell did you get through Classic if you don`t use explosives ?
