Armour penatration?
How does it work?? Is it more effective on big ships or summit?

I assume you are talking about long war air weapons.

which unless they changed it you have to look at the wiki for exact values.

But everything has values of Penetration, damage, rate of fire.

Damage Calculations

Armor Mitigation = 0.05 * ( Target Armor - Armor Penetration)
0 is the minimum Armor Mitigation and 0.95 is the maximum
Base Damage = Weapon Damage * ( 1 - Armor Mitigation)
Crit Chance = ( Armor Penetration - Target Armor) / 2
5% is the minimum Crit Chance and 25% is the maximum
A successful Crit multiplies damage by 2
total damage is then randomized to between 50% and 150% of its current value.
For XCOM Aircraft:
If the appropriate UFO analysis has been researched, total damage is multiplied by 1.1
total damage is also multiplied by ( Pilot Kills / 100 ) + 1

Examples:

Avalanche missile (340 damage, 0 armor penetration) vs figher (armor 12): no armor is penetrated, so 12×5=60% of damage is blocked, and the avalanche has an effective damage of 136.
Laser cannon (290 damage, 5 armor penetration) vs figher (armor 12): armor mitigation value of 12-5=8. Consequently, 8×5=40% of the damage is blocked, and the cannon has an effective damage of 174.
Stingray missile (200 damage, 10 armor penetration) vs figher (armor 12): armor mitigation value of 12-10=2. Only 10% of damage is blocked, the strinray has an effective damage of 180.

Note that in the above example while the laser cannon and stingray misiles are about equal on a per-hit basis, the laser cannon is more effective in combat due to its higher rate of fire and higher accuracy.

How to LW air war :

Ignore anything above Raider class.

Equip all interceptors with Superconductor LCs.

Probably want an aim module on a firestorm with an EMP cannon, and take down aassault ship (terror mission) ship. you can two shot those things, go balanced use a dodge, then use the aim.

You'll have time to move one to intercept after they announce where they plan on attacking.

Yeah... or I could not do that. I`d rather do an alien base. Or, since I`ve probably shot down an Overseer by now, win.

you do know in long war it takes like 2 years before you get a psionic trained enough to do the last mission right?

Yeah, I`ve done it.

Though I usually just slash PSI training times so I don`t have to play unnaturally. Then it`s time to do the happy MC dance with a really unlucky Ethereal.

You can get the actual values of UFO armor and HP in the ini. and you can alter them there as well.

@highwolf..yes I would slash Psi training times as well. but I find long war Battleship missions much funner than templar ship assault. which I did in Beta 13 and it just made me groan. Its like those power ranger episodes with the 40 red rangers.

You literally bring like 20 men on this mission to fight the same number of enemies as on vanillia and in the same spawns. Yeah they are BOSS units but I got 20 guys, one of them with RIFT with no worries for tomorrow.
