Long war Armor trade off?
As of my EW Marathon games. I used to like restricting myself to Caparace, PSI and Skeleton armors for basicly 2 reasons. 1 was I found myself winning alot and needed to keep somewhat a challenge (So I wouldnt get soilders packed with too much HP) and 2, for a tactical squad game, I dont want a team full of power armor looking soldiers. I like playing X-com for special forces like squads. I want my guys to look more uniformed kelvar outfits. I am fine with Mechs being the power armor of my squad.

Now I played a little bit of Beta 14, but just downloaded the Long war 15b to start a new game. I have a question that would like some opinions of people who know Long war pretty well. I still want to restict my soldiers to wear no higher than Caparace/PSI/Skeleton to avoid the power armor looks. But Long war I am aware has been built to be a more brutal game, So upgrading to power armor is pretty much an expected strat. Basicly I want to restrict my armor in Long war like I do in EW, but I kinda wonder what I could do for a trade off with the aliens. Any suggestions for any good ideas or what I could modify that would seem fair ?. I dont want to feel I am gimping the aliens, but just looking for some fair restrictions. An armor restriction on me. a ___ resriction for the aliens?

Pretty much a fair limitation for both sides. Any suggested ideas ? Anything would be appricated.

Thanks ^_^

maybe you should move such considerations a bit behind, if you are not all familiar with LW especially late game problems, there will be only one thing happen: the floor hits your face. fast. lots of people struggle with a normal playthrough on classic or brutal, not to mention the infamous and unbalanced impossible as it is intended by the LW team so tying one hand behind your back in the first case might be a bit hard ^^
what you could do is look up the ini file to remove bonus damage for alien research on the higher tiers but im not a big friend of advocating ini changes before a "proper" clearrun has been achieved
Yeah, even i have to argee with Armarnis on this one. While restricting yourself in those ways is admirable, just keep one thing in mind if you would. Most regular "Long War-riors" would put restrictions on themselves in such a manner to make the game more challenging. As much as i really hate to say it, ummmm, your not as "snowflake" as you believe.

Long War was specifically set so we wouldn't HAVE to restrict ourselves, and be brutally challenging in that aspect. The numbers where changed; i.e. health levels, mitigation, AI (to some extent), accuracy bonuses and the like. I may go so far as to say it isn't the same game in the slightest (in aspects to back office mechanics), other then it shares the same GUI.

I respect and honor your decision to pigeon-hole yourself in these areas. Honestly though, i do believe your walking in with a set mentality and setting yourself up for failure.
I'd say just give Long War a shot, it takes a good amount of time before you even hit the more powerful armors, so you'll have plenty of time to decide to gimp yourself or not. Once you run into some of the more badass variety of aliens I think you'll want every tool you got available though :sectoid:
Lighter armours are roughly on par with their heavier versions in LW. I don`t see that you`d have to restrict either side in any way if you just want to use the high mobility versions.

This. I even reverted back to 14i because I think that 15b is too much of a good thing. :'/
well, you do need good armor in longwar, past october, carapace isn t worth much

BUT, theres something you can do:
build a set of 8 aegis/titan/whatever, once you ve built them, go to your game core ini file and switch tac armor stats to the badass armor you ve bought(if you don t have 8 titans but 3 aegis 3 titans 2corsairs, just make up a compromise value to set, like 7HP/10def or else

actually you do not need to buy stuff to do that but i suggest you do it for honesty s sake, i ve been doing that for quite a longtime now, i like the look of tac armor and i m not into mechanical uber stuff
Hmm that could work, or take some late game damage upgrades off. Was also just thinking, maybe enabling the 2nd wave Cinematic mode, but I dont know powerful that really is. It said significant increase?. is Cinematic really OP as it sounds ?

Long war can be very brutal towards mid and late game some boss level aliens are a real night mare and unless both your weapon and armour tech are up to scratch you will loose a whole team pretty damn fast.

In 15 it is said to be bugged and not work at all. Then it was said that it was fixed, but I saw no real improvement. I'm a wuss, so I like to play with Cinematics. ^^

In 14i, Cinematics work and you get better percentages on hit, but it's still a dice-roll game. It doesn't really matter much when your sniper botches 98% slamdunks. =)
I know this might be silly but you could just change the grpahic for the soldier. Or maybe stretch to changing the image file in the ini for the armor types. I don't know how unbuggy that would be but should be fairly easy to just copy and paste the image file from carapace to titan armor.
