{LW} When to attack an exalt base?
So what preparations do i need to attack exalt's base? I know where their base is, and i attacked it with one of my B teams, with only 1 mec trooper and quickly realized i was vastly unprepared for it.
I got like 5 turns in and everything started turning to ♥♥♥♥ for me, i'm at a point where i may try to salvage the mission and continue on, or just reload before i went into the base attack and just continue doing what i was doing until im better prepared. I've usually not had any troubles with exalt guys, but now they're mixed with aliens and there just too damn many of them.

So what kind of weapons should i have, how many mecs should i have, etc?

How soon should i be attacking these mofos?

Ive attacked once, with my A team guys. No mecs yet in that game. Ranged seemed to be the best for me. Heavy gunners with heat ammo, rockets and engineers to blow away cover for clear shots for snipers and other high powered firearms.

I dont use builds or anything specialized................ im just a casual gamer that doesnt know or really desire to know every trick or perfect approach to evey situation, i reloaded save all through that mission so maybe im not the best for giving advice but................. the above plus save scumming alot git me through it.

FYI later in that game it all went to ♥♥♥♥ from poor sataelite management and researching in the incorrect order to get my aircraft to firefox level or w/e the killer design is ofr planes

the place has alot of destructable cover, so I'd say go in when you got titan or arch angel armor and well bring at couple alien grenade loaded engineers. and a couple SHIVs. all you really need is a pair of SHIVs and a pair of alien grenade lobbing engineers.

then just level all the walls and shoot them. Burn the place to the ground.

When a new group runs to re-inforce theres usually 1 guy with a rocket launcher, look at their backs very carefully and find him asap, his rockets never travel 600 miles the wrong direction when he fires them lol

no, you just have to bring enough explosives around and of course, you need a few infantry classes. well at least, thats how i do it. staying in front of the house usually led me to being overwhelmed by exalt flesh, going around i cant make my numbers count cause lack of cover, inside i always got outflanked so i usually make sure by turn 3 all soldiers are on the first rooftop, by turn 5 i appear on the upper roofwindows, making it rain grenades, rockets and all other kind of shootable stuff down on those exalt i can see. after i see no more, i drop a soldier with a grapplinghook down to trigger new pods.

Cool, thanks for the advice guys. I decided to back out as i am definitely not ready for this yet, I only have a couple carapace armours, a few pheonix and kestrel armours and only laser weapons still. So ill come back with some better armour, and probably 4 or so Mecs, loaded up with flame throwers and healing mist and some engineers and rocketeers, just dominate these dudes next time.

Next time, Gadget! Next time!!......

well laser weapons are pretty much okay as long as you are not actually BEHIND in tech compared to exalt and aliens by a big lot, you should watch out as i have sometimes the feeling while you ramp up your efforts to do *insert big endeavor*, as soon as you feel "yeah lets go now!" you are a few days too late and aliens have reached a new techlvl (aka new upgrades)

Whatever you do - go in with rockets, lots of grenades (and engineers with Bombard and grenade damage and cover destruction upgrades), really - anything with an AOE, and MECs with the ability to destroy cover at range.

Along with Infantry and Assaults that get their first shot free against uncovered targets.

Blow the cover up, rocket/grenade the heck out of them, then toss a flashbang or two at the end of the round just to piss them off.

Don't worry so much about recovering stuff at the end of the mission - they have little (maybe an alien or two in the mission) that can be destroyed.

Again I wander around the side, scouting with the shiv(s) and use my archangel armor to give me flying cover. which is what 25 or 35 defense +10 defense on the armor. and maybe some dense smoke or telekenetic field if you need it. you can make your own cover. Once you pick off the outsides really just sending SHIVs in to murder then pull back to heal makes the most sense.

i really dont bother to invest into shivs, they just dont work for me :D

Lots of grenades, if you keep overwatching and blowing cover they just stay in the pit around the globe and overwatch/steady weapons, so you can toss nades and fire rockets in till they die, or you thin their numbers enough. Beware of Muton Elites and Sectoid Commanders.

When to attack? ASAP

I'm also ready to do EXALT base assault and have a questions:

should I bring 2 of my level 4 MECs or go with maxed out infantry instead?
