MEC death rate?
Today I noticed MECs have a natural defense of only 10. This means they have as much defense as a human in a skell suit standing in the open. The crit defense is nice, but I find my MECs taking a lot of damage. :(

Do your MECs die on you faster than your other units? Esp on harder difficulties where units actually die a lot.

Yeah they get shot to ♥♥♥♥ if you use them as tanks, I use them more for their powerful weapons and abilities in a support role as they can make a lot of things dead.

Lol so you just have to hide them out of line of sight?

I use MECs as stormtroopers. They are hurt alot but they also got +2 HP per turn healing so no problem. They die seldom in my games.

never lost a singel mec in all my playthroughs

no.

one I give them body shield so they get another -20 and two I don't leave them tanking 4+ Dudes. Damage control, Absorption fields. they can take like 8 hits. Assume a guy doing lets say infinite damage 10.

the MEC has 10 HP. it gets reduced to 3. then the damage control reduces the next 6 hits to 1. and on the 8th hit it would die. and at any time a savior medkit could restore it to full health.

hypothetically.

Carrying forward, the MEC has 20 hp, the damage gets reduced to 7, 5 on each following hit, it takes 4 hits. still plenty but you probably should bring plenty of arc throwers to repair it

If you`re losing MECs you`re not agressive enough.

I use 2 ex-sniper mechs (~110 aim) and at max range with reaction shots and stim cloud they simply out-gun ANYTHING they encounter, even sectopods. No problems there.

Got 2 mechs running with reactive fire, they get hit but never had one die on me.

Don't have them run out in the open unaccompanied, the squad should stay together until at least the 2nd squad size upgrade.

i use MEC as a scout ahead unit, i dont use flame thrower very often, i prefer kinetic strike module because they give MEC movement point

equip him with that grenade launcher, if trigger alien try to use bomb to blow up their cover, and let your crew clear everything

but if can't, just back up 1 turn, hide MEC out of the way (for 1 turn), set up a party of overwatch and let them come to you

I "NEVER" have my MEC die (i always build kinda tanky MEC btw, pick up every defensive promotion, that should help)

use Heavy MECs, and use 2 of them, they take turns in soaking fire and with there Shield they make more enemy shoots miss as u maybe think. in my C/I runs it must be real bad luck that 1 dies in the whole campain, normaly they never fall.

There is such a thing as overextending, though.

Not lost a MEC yet on any difficulty played. My tactics with them depends on their class set up. Close Assault get in fast and do as much damage as possible. The Support stays in the middle ground and offers cover and smoke for my troops. The Sniper one stays back out of the way and just demolishes alien cover and heavy infantry like the Discs.

It's only overextending if you let the aliens live.
