MEC Primary Weapon?
So you have the default Chain Gun, the Rail Gun and the Particle Cannon.

Is there any difference between these 3 weapons besides damage?

Do they hold different amounts of ammo?

Do they perform differently over varying ranges?

Or do the more advanced models outstrip their predecessors in every way?

The reason I ask is the chaingun seems to hit more reliably over range than the particle cannon.

My current game doesn't have mecs yet or I'd check, but since you have the weapons available, just click the info button in the mec's equipment screen in the barracks or at the store in engineering.

More damage. There really is no reason to use the chain gun after you get the particle cannon.

MEC's accuracy is determined by their aim not the weapon.

thats why use you col snipers with over 100 aim. They are deadly things on the battle field. They would almost hit anything at max range and is more deadly with all those badges,

Made most of my mecs from first rank heavies, theyre unreliable with their primaries, got a couple of snipers augmented and they were badass with the particle cannon.

what all ppl ever have with this colonol BS? i use asault squaddies and in my current run i have one with over 100 aim (as colonel) , thats what medals are fore. +2 Aim per continetal bonus +1 aim for every mission without casualties and no need for colonels, specialy not for colonels who have a useless MEC passive. when u already have colonels u dont need MECs anymore, u need them at the start.

I tend to make a squad, get them up to colonel, then make an entire new squad, I'll bring out the colonels in emergancies but I've got loads now.

I also made a squad inspired by warhammer 40k imperial guards, gave them laser rifles and skeleton suits (cos they look like flak) and a mec suit (dreadnought), it was a challenge in the early ranks but good fun.

Planning to make an entire squad of mecs, but I still need a few hundred meld to finish that.

Might try to create space marines next, using titan armour as power armour, and just get them to use conventional weapons with reaper rounds to replicate bolters.
