question about obtaining Meld in EW
I am currently in my first EW campaign. On missions where Meld is available, I thought that the meld timer did not start until it came within view. Then you would have a certain amount of turns to get it.

But what is happening is that I find the first canister, the timer goes up and I get it before the timer runs out. That, from what I have read, is supposed to happen. Unfortunately, somehow I think it is also triggering the second canister, although I cannot see and no timer is shown. I have had times where the second canister is on the other side of the map and time runs out on it long before I get it within the field of view. Or if I do see it, it say 1 on the timer and I have no chance to get it.

It this supposed to happen? Because most of the missions I am only getting 1 of the canisters.

thanks

The timer starts on your first turn. The meld feature makes you decide whether to take it slow and turtle your way through a mission or try to speed things up a bit in order to get to the meld before the timer expires. Either way, it's your choice whether you think that meld is worth it.

I am of two minds with regards to Meld.
1) My men are more important than Meld. If I get the Meld, that's great. But don't rush or do anything risky in order to get it.
2) MECs are so totally awesome than they need Meld. Get Meld and get MECs!!!

So far I have followed my gut and done #1.

meld time limit starts when you start the mission, seeing the canister only makes you able to see the timer

My policy with meld is to immediately head towards it. Like not dash my team towards it, but to move in it's direction as soon as I see it.

Depending on how risky I like to be, I'll dash, but not on the last move (too risky). I will do somewhat risky stuff to ensure I can get that stuff (IE going full aggression, stepping out of cover and running straight up to the alien(s) to get the best possible shots w/range bonuses, run n gun, nade spam, etc.

Really depends on the map though. Like if it's the hurricane map, don't go for the meld. Not worth it.

The timer for *all* cannisters starts when the mission starts.

The cannisters have different timer lengths though. Typically, the cannister closest to the landing zone has the shortest timer.

why would you think the timer only starts when you look at it?
