Zerkers ain`t got ♥♥♥♥ on the sheer rage that permeates every fiber of my being. It`s like being Magnus the Red trying to talk to a particularily unintelligent Ogryn.
If I remember correctly from the Autopsy cutscenes, it's Vahlen that says something like this
"... that the troops fondly refer to as the "Muton"..."
Or
"At this time, the "Cyberdisc", as our troops have been calling it, is both heavilly armoured and armed..."
Sectoids were called 'Asx4^ss's'
Yeah, that's pretty much unpronounceable for humans.
ANGRY MARINES!! ALWAYS ANGRY!! ALL THE TIME!! SCREAM IT YOU ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ULTRAMARINE-LOVING ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!

Not QUITE that angry.
As for their original names, those are lost to the mists of time. There's so much we don't know. Sectoids could have been normal, humanoid beings before the Ethereals!
The only alien species we know A LOT about is the Mutons, since there are multiple references to a tribal, simplistic society. I don't think they were even at the age to classify themselves as a species if they were that primitive.
They just took one sample from the Muton race, grabbed some prime DNA and made clones.
they probably just grabbed a football team actually. so....Tom.
But they were a tribal species. I doubt they would have football.
