Is it reasonable to capture the same alien twice?
basically, /title.

For example, if I've already captured and interrogated a sectoid, is there any benefit to capturing another one?

thanks :fhappy:

Yes.
Even without an interrogation chamber, capturing an alien yields the weapon that the alien was using. It's a cheap way of gathering the vast majority of weapons for your troops. Just keep in mind, there are weapons that's unavailable via capture methods.

You get another copy of their weapon, which you can use once the relevant tech is researched or sell for a bit.

It`s also a really stupid way. LPRs are just Laser Rifles with an integrated scope and thus marginally useful to train rookies, but at the plasma stage you REALLY shouldn`t lose soldiers anymore, and thus not even have rookies/squaddies. Plasma pistols are nigh useless unless you`re terrible at sightlines. Heavy plasma only comes in on Elite Mutons, and if you`re resource starved when they show up you have much bigger problems. Plasma rifles are the most useful capture, being the top tier Support weapon... but Supports are probably thw least useful class to a good player. I guess there`s a slight margin of useability on Assaults while you`re researching alloy cannons... Which gives them a ~20 day niche, same as SHIVs.

I`ve never actually seen a council request for tier-3 weapons, at least not that I can recall offhand. Not that they`re really that vital.

I mean 3 LPRs for ~1200 will set you for life.

If you can afford that you`re set for life anyway.

I meant you trade 3 of them for 1200.

Why would you cap 3 LPRs ? Sectoid, Outsider, Muton, one each, that`s all you`ll ever need. Although I tend to cap the base commander for old times sake.

I'm just saying if, for example, the council asks you for 3 LPRs and they're offering that much money, it might be in your best interest to get those LPRs.

Or I could NOT do that, NOT risk my soldiers in the cap attempt and STILL have all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ money I ever need.

Hey hey, I said might be in your best interest. I mean, money is money. And you probably have 3 anyways.

Vast majority does indeed stretch it.
But considering the cost of plasma, especially in EW, I'd be willing to jump at the chance to capture plasma weaponry.

If it were heavy plasma, plasma sniper or alloy cannons, sure. Those are the good ones.

You can only cap heavy plasma when you`re basically ready for the final mission anyway and you have to build the other two, with the bottleneck being Elerium and alloys, not cash.

Yeah I occasionally try to cap an extra pistol or two to save some $$.

I use shotguns and snipers primarily so the main gun isn't that valuable. and If I get a council request I'll think about stunning some stuff to make it work.

but its not really that good of an idea to stun things for guns. the research takes too long and you need to research the gun first before you can use it.

just the one copy to do the research. a plasma rifle isn't that bad over a laser shotgun for an assault. and sometimes you ARE alloy starved I guess. so I won't say its never tactically viable but most of the time its not.
