Why XCOM isn't for Small Children
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=497796365

This beauty would probably have given me nightmares if I opened a door and seen it when I was 4 years old. And I predict that "Specter" Gonzales will also have nightmares - at least once the XCOM med team regrows the part of his brain that it blew off.

Watching it unfold was a moment of stark beauty and terror. It had 41 hitpoints and an itchy trigger tentacle. Long War - its not for kids.

I was expecting this to be about the chryssalid popping out from zombies
The game is rated "M" for Mature Audiences by the ESRB people :P

http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=32310

The reason? Blood, Gore, violence and Strong Language.

When you view the game's information here on Steam, the site even asks you for your Birthdate.

So I really did not appreciate it when a Forum Moderator once gave me a warning for posting a comment regarding "fantasizing" about Vahlen, XCOM 2's Female Berserkers or the Snake Women with the reason that I SHOULD keep my posts "Family Friendly".

When something is Rated M for Mature Audiences, it is expected that children WILL NOT be allowed to play or view it, same goes for the game's community. If you let your child play or view this game the irresponsibility falls on you (the parent) and not the producers or other fans who enjoy it.

Not to say that we all appreciate you posting your fantasies about Vahlen haha

Funnily enough, there's no age gate on the community hub for the game, so the community hub, and hence these discussions, has to stay family friendly.

Oh, and publicly discussing moderation is also against the rules, especially when arguing or disagreeing with it.

i disagree with everything above ! {grind}

Why am I somehow picturing the squaddies casually talking before opening that door, possibly about how easy the mission's been, or how it's too quiet..

That's a retarded way to look at it, If the game is rated M than it's the childs fault for accessing the forums for a game they know is not for their age, so you can't say that because the forum has no age gate people have to be family friendly, because the game itself is the age gate. Also, telling people they're not allowed to talk about moderation publicly or disagree with it is an abusive rule that allows moderators to do whatever they want and idiots like you who follow all the rules won't take action against someone being banned or something because the moderators are being asshats.

These aren't official forums, in case you weren't perceptive enough to notice. It's Steam Community, which is under the respective TOS.

As with many other game discussion areas on Steam, the publisher has provided rules they want enforced here, and that seems to be fine by Valve. Not to mention, publicly arguing with moderation is part of Valve's rules.

Though the squad was primarily Master Sergeants who had been in an alien base before, we did have a couple of greenhorns. The medic, in particular, had been asking the guys to "give him a kill" and they promised him the next one was all his.

After this, he changed his tune to "if you need a smoke grenade, I'll be here in the back."

Well, I was referring to them in general rather than rank in specific (Something like X-commers would seem even more awkward and I'm not sure what else I'd call them off the bat). And hey, assuming the others managed to weaken it to the point that it was killable in one hit why not, assuming he wasn't too busy making a mental note to request brown pants for the next UFO raid.
