UFO: Enemy Unknown (UK)
X-COM: UFO Defense (NA)
X-COM: Terror From The Deep
X-COM: Apocalypse
X-COM: Interceptor
X-COM: First Alien Invasion (E-mail game)
X-COM: Enforcer
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified
XCOM: Enemy Within
The "Best" is debatible. Generally between Enemy Unknown 1994 and Enemy Within 2013 (Enemy Unknown 2012)
No, you shouldn't wait.
Interceptor, Enforcer, and Bureau are completely different game styles than the others.
The timeline order:
The Bureau
UFO
TFTD
Interceptor
Apocalypse
EU/EW (2012/2013)
Enforcer and FAI have their own timeline... though FAI would technically be along with UFO/XCOM/EW (it really really really doesn't fit though), Enforcer is during the "first alien war".. so anywhere within UFO
The rest of the Franchise are Turn Based Strat.
At least Bureau had some good backstory to X-COM.. as for how they all played.. I'd rather not pour salt in those wounds.
I have every X-COM (EU and NA editions). Some people complain about EU/EW vs the original... but meh. They're both great games. They are very different, tactically. They both have the worst shots for soldiers in the world!
*edit* Oh.. and if EU goes on sale, EW will get a discount also.
@graye: Who says X-COM 1994 and X-com 2012 arn't at differnt places in the timeline? Fogive me if I am wrong (I have not yet beten X-COM 1994, but don't you go to mars and fight the aliens there? and wipe them out? what is mars was just a forward operating base and the aliens in bearu are scouts, the aliesn in TFTD and UFO defence are the invasion and the Aliens in EU are the retaliation force. It could also explain some of the new mechanics of EU: only one base: The concil learned after the initial base attacks, and hade you build one giant easily defendable base instead of a multitude. lack ofr base attacks: The Aliens underestemated you until you hit there base, at which point they send in a scrap of forces to overwhelm you. when that fails, they don't have enough troops to attack you, harrass countries, and defend the temple ship.
The storylines are a tad different, so it is difficult to judge. That is just my take on it. TFTD is sonic weapon development, so that's an obvious change. As well as submarines and the like.
Apocalypse only follow later (with lower tech also) because it is directly in the plot line.
You may be 100% about 2012 being later though. Each time the franchise shifted hands, the timeline gets all wonky. the only "ture" timeline is through MicroProse releases (UFO, TFTD, Interceptor, Apocalypse).
I'll try to pay more attention to the AI jabbering next play through and see if I can pick anything up.. but last time I did, it seemed like they thought this was a completely unknown/new threat.
