Assault alien base right away or wait?
I barely even have MECs or gene-modded troopers, let alone SHIVs. Playing with Training Roulette on and the "save scum" option.Does the alien base always have the same type of aliens no matter how much you delay?

The longer you wait the stronger the enemy units (eg. more cyberdiscs spawn) but then you'll be better equipped to deal with them anyways.

Basically, the longer you delay and the stronger you become, so do they. But go or wait is up to you.

I don't feel they get stronger, but you do. I always wait, becasue you grow more than them.

I waited until my best soldiers were healed, and I had made enough lasers for everybody. Took a few months, but was VERY worth it. Wouldve lost with substandard equipment/men

Assault the alien base when you need to manage panic. Earlier the better so you can start working on psionics.

Difficulty and second wave options dependant.

Classic and lower you can stall the base assault without much penalty until you've got a squad of six plasma/blaster launcher wielding, titan wearing superheroes.Just do the base assault when you're comfortable with your tech and soldier roster.

Warning: Doing it this way also makes the aliens much stronger.

=)

Well, I waited longer the current game I'm on and I had 1 sectopod, 4 cyberdisks, 4 muton elites, 4 MECs, 4 commanders, and an assortment of others for a total of 47 enemies. So that should give you some idea if you wait too long.

Old ben gives a good reference to what you can expect by ignoring the assault and teching up instead. It's a double edge sword, with a edge to the players side (in my opinion) as your pretty much playing with weaponry, items, colonels and armour that's more than capable of dealing with even Ethereals without the use of end game armours and other toys.

On Classic and up there's more focus on *if* and *when* you'll need to do the base for panic reasons, particularly Impossible, but on easy and normal panic need not be a consideration if the player has the panic under control.
