Not sure in your case. I was caught off guard with this mission as well as my top guys were all in the infirmary and I hadn't fully equipped the rest of the squad (I had one fully equipped MEC though). I managed to complete it with the only deaths being the base security personnel.
2. It is hard, because I'm hitting for 3-5 damage when i should be hitting for 10-13
This would be pretty much fixed if they gave at least the stored gear to the first soldiers because it doesn't make any sense that they go around in pants shooting at high-level tech aliens
soldiers come with default weapons because you tend to swap your best gear and assign it to guys on missions
your elite does not sleep with titan armor, only people equiped with armor at the time of the attack wear that armor
as for the infirmary, wounded soldiers do no participate nor do soldier being tested for psy
sorry, but you should just understand that you should own more than one set of cool armors, more than one set of uber guns, you re supposed to lead a team of soldiers, not a sharing boy scouts group
also, even with default stuff, how could you ever be complaining to only face "2 mechtoids, 2 sectoids and 3 spider-crabs(and i assume smaller guys)" when you have "maxed out sniper with 115+ will, 5 gene mods, titan armor, plasma sniper+pistol, scope and chitin armor(even without gear) "-this shows you ve got lots of experience, lots of research done, so in no way it is unfair
you are so lucky to face only the few big dudes you complain about
sorry to say that but you suck at the game and complain about the game cheating when it actually is very very nice with you, you should have more than just one good squad, you should have more than 6 sets, you should have most of your soldiers equiped
i had to face about 7 mechtoids, 6 cyberdiscs,a bunch of sectoid commanders and mutons by the dozen
i had my gear on, but sucked at the game cause i was a noob with only laser weapons
i still won on my second try
get yourself together and go fight soldier!
Base defense comes around 2 weeks after alien base mission.
2. I'm not pissed because they attack you by surprise, but because it took me LONG TIME and steady playing to get a perfect C/I run that is going to get wrecked because some random crap mission that doesn't make any sense popped on my first EW playthough. YEAH <3
3. my barracks are maxed out, why can't they send like 30 people instead of 5 to defend a whole base. And after the first skirmish 3 people come and they are still naked, ffs that doesn't make any sense! they have robots and mind control aliens, go pick the plasma weapons, they are stored BESIDE the default ones you picked, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!
so all in all, that mission sucks and it breaks a quite enjoyable game. after all i had to do to get everything up and running i'm going to lose a perfect C/I run due to this...
My base assaults have normally been a mix of total junk gear, lasers, and minor plasma. I had a MECH once.
May have just been how I played? I never really stunned the guardian until I was ready for the alien base assault (I did once and they wouldn't shut up about the key). I also wanted to be as ready as possibly for a firestorm shortly after the base mission (Seems that once you scan and find the overseer, it is a bit more taxing on your interceptors).
Worst base defense I had was 6 drones, 3 cyberdiscs, 4 or 5 comms and mutons, 4 mechtoids, a few cryssalids, and a bunch of sectoids.
Easiest was 1 (2) Cyberdiscs (one "disappeared" after spawning), 3 (4) Drones, 4 sectoids, 2 Cryssalids, 2 Mechtoids, 2 mutons, 1 comm.
What I meant was don't do the alien base until you've finished with all that. You can prolong it for however long you want. The aliens will get harder but you'll be geared enough to handle them anyways.
tried to commit suicide but it makes me restart the mission
Since the scenario just repeats when you die.. on move 1: Dash your soldiers as close to 1 space from the drop down points of the aliens in the control room. As soon as they come out to play. You're at point blank range... blast them in the face. Depending on what type of alien and the gear you have available, you may have to set up 2:1.
That leaves the discs and drones coming in. Secure the access points with multiple shots per entry. Grenade if needed.
After that, you should get some backup. Don't rush out into the cargo area. Set up shop b/t the cargo area and the control room and just stem the tide.
It totally depends on what you're given, as to how to handle the base defense beyond that. If your offense capabilities are lacking, don't assault. Set a good defense and pick off what you can. Eventually you probably will have more than you can handle at once. Fall back. Regroup. Pick some more off.
As you thin them out, start advancing back up. It can be a pain, but it depends on what you're given. At least you weren't dumped with just heavies and support. (My first base defense was like that..and they were all squaddies (except 2 backups) since they arrived the "day" before. The RNG loved me that day.)
