Does this game work with Intel HD 4000 graphics?
I have this game installed on my Desktop computer which has an NVidia GPU but when I installed it on my laptop (Intel I7 with HD 4000 graphics), when I press the Play button, it tries installing DirectX and then stops. With my desktop when I first pressed Play it installed DirectX and it said step 1 of 2. However with the laptop, it says Step 1 of 1, and apparently doesn't complete since it just ends without anything happening. I have the most recent update to the Intel HD 4000 driver so I am wondering whether or not this game just does not run on Intel HD 4000 graphics.

It should. Sounds like a DirectX issue on the laptop. Maybe install the latest from the Microsift site?

After my GTX 580M burned out a few weeks ago Intel HD is what keeps my XCOM running. FPS is not great, but it's playable for sure.

Definitely. My laptop with an HD 3000 runs it just fine

Also used a HD 4000 a couple times with few problems.

I'm able to run it on my netbook (ASUS X200CA-DH21T) which has Pentium 2117U (HD2500 I believe). However yeah, it doesn't run as good as on GTX 580, but helps to kill some time when travelling.

Thanks. I have DirectX 11 according to DXdiag - can't tell if it is plain 11 or 11.1 or not (Just downloaded 11.1 and it says it is already installed). I have 8GB of RAM so that should be enough. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and my display is 1600x900. I wonder if any of those don't work with this game.

Ah OK, I finally got it to work. I had to disable Kaspersky Anti-Virus which is odd since I also have Kaspersky on my desktop and it did not interfere with the program installing DirectX on initial run. My desktop is WIndows 8.1 though not WIndows 7 so I wonder if there is a difference in the way these anti-virus programs work depending on what version of the OS you are using.

Anyway, thanks a lot to everyone who replied. Based on the replies, I delived further into this issue than I normally would have.

A little bit late but when a game installs DirectX on first start it's not installing the whole DirectX 1X.X package, but merely the slightly customised ones that would make Microsoft's download too big if all of them were added into the main package. IIRC of course

Been reports that Kaspersky is not an anti-virus to use, interferes too much with games and programs and the computer.
im thinking of buying xcom enemy unknown, but will it run with my intel graphics 3000, as it says the minimum is a nvida, but I'm still trying to understand the potential of my graphics card, as I'm a laptop user
