All that should be necessary is downloading and running the installer from the nexus page.
We only need to roll back the installation if we intend to use the non-EW version of LW. The EW version does not require it.
On a fresh X-Com install, making certain you have all the official DLC owned/installed beforehand, begin by downloading and running this mod :
https://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/88
Then if you want the truly best Long War experience these days, you'll want to install this mod on top of the original LW mod :
https://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/686
Regardless, if it doesn't seem to be working.. double-check that the mod files are being installed to the correct file location on your computer. It might default to a folder that doesn't exist (for example, I have X-Com installed on a secondary HDD and not to the C:\Programfiles\Steam\etc folder that it usually defaults to). Also, if it asks you to identify the folder, you want to tell it to write into the top-layer "Xcom-Enemy-Unkown" folder and not the XEW folders within.
Good luck, all flavors of Long War are great!
You literally have to launch BOTH(original&expansion) TWICE into the menu.
It's the wierdest thing I've heared, but it seems to be working.
To my knowledge, no rollbacks are needed for LW. My current build is 848157 on which I have LW 1.0 installed.
For a clean install you would ideally want to uninstall from steam. Then check both the game directory and My Docs directory and purge any remnant files. Possibly restart PC as cautionary measure. Make sure that programs have full read/write access to the directory you are installing to.
Download the game again. Install outside of system drive in non-UAC protected environment. After the game has installed, fire it up to initiate config files and make sure it works.
Download LW 1.0 from Nexus. Disable your internet and anti-virus softwares. Install from LW executable with admin rights. Fire it up and look for Longwar specific menu's.
If you don't see long war menu or the game won't start, check the Longwar troubleshooting section on Nexus. If it still doesn't work maybe try different compatibility modes for EW for game executables in addition to running in admin mode.
Most of these steps should not be necessary, but something weird is apparently going on here.
I tried it, because i have good memories of that mod.
But with "enemy Within" it totally sucks - you start with "Exalted Weapons", no german language working and all the "good" things, i mremember of that mod are "gone" now..
