Europe is only for specific strategies and South America only needs two satellites to get the bonus.
Africa does not have rich nations in terms of monthly income. This means that the bonus is more of a mid-game bonus.
NA has a high initial income due to the USA satellite but a lackluster bonus.
Asia has a decent bonus but its benefits are finite. Still good for getting your squad up to 6 early.
In vanilla you can, if lucky enough, have five satellite up. Try doing that with Marathon on. You will be happy to have 4 satellite up in two month.
It boils down to play style and what second wave option you use as suggested.
I play with random funding though.
The reason why Asia is almost a certain choice is because of the boost it give you in the begining and you know that you need your soldier top shape both in availibility and in stat upgrades when it comes to Ironman. There is also another logic behind this, this is a 4 satellite bonus so getting Europe or Asia is a prime example of a good lead when it comes to satellite cost saving when it comes to a nation selection. Also, sometime, instead of getting SA, I rather go for Europe as the number of scientist increase over time, thus making 1 day for either Interrogation or Autopsie.
