Long War Rebalanced experience?
I tried to give LWR (Version 1.52.16) a try and it feels very strange. I started a classic campaign, but every for instance everything i research is 5 times faster as it's described in the wiki. Sectoid Autopsy takes 1 day and Alien Weaponry 4, all of my soldiers have like 12 base hp + armor against Sectoids with 3 base HP. That can't possibly be the intended experience?

Is there a version that you would recommend as stable and good?

Your research times match what is on the wiki (look at the equation at the top). I believe the developer wanted players to have the option to get out of basic equipment quickly. Research will dramatically slow down after some of the early tech. As for the 3 hp sectoids, well, they'll get more once AL 2 comes up.

There is a reason for the second wave option to start in month 3.

I do think the balance is a bit off. The tactical combat is a bit too easy while managing panic is quite hard.

LW:R is the absolute best version of X-Com currently available. The mod is built and balanced around the "Impossible" difficulty level, with the lower difficulty levels providing a substantial boost to your early game. The mid-to-end game is going to be considerably more difficult than other versions of X-com though, regardless, and the historically problematic "reverse difficulty curve" is no longer a factor. Additionally, the mod assumes you'll be playing Ironman in the way that many of its systems are designed, so don't be afraid to take some losses or fail a mission occasionally.. you can usually bounce back.

The Discord channel is going to be your best place for additional questions or other specifics, but I'm happy to answer anything else you want to know here on Steam as well.

Literally changed it from 'classic' to brutal and the first 'gatekeeper' mission had almost twice the sectoids and an outsider with lots of perks on them to boot. Those hp didn't last quite as long. Thank god for the armor. Even so, lost half the starter troop. Much better.

long war is still its own thing but its much more linear then people think

Oof, that's a rough start. Legitimately, I think losing half your Gatekeeper team is grounds for a restart at that point. It's totally reasonable to flawless/woundless that mission on Impossible though, and I betcha you're not aggressively using your SHIV for "Grand Theft Auto : Sectoid" enough. That little guy can seriously carry your rookies, yo!

Yah, did a couple more runs just to try and get a feel for it. Reading the wiki gave me a lot more info on it too. Going to do Brutal with the Second Wave (Difficulty Drop) option to try to give me a between Classic/Brutal feel to the game. We'll see how it goes.

Question: How to use RAM with Shiv. It gives me option when I highlight enemy, but when i hit A button it just drives up beside them.

If you're sufficiently far enough away from an enemy, and with a clear mostly-straight line that doesn't run perpendicular to their cover, you simply move "at" them by right clicking on the space beside them that gives you the "Ram X" pop-up. Even on impossible, you can one-shot the 6HP Sectoids in AL1 by properly spacing and engaging your SHIV this way
