Cybernetics vs Genes...
Like title states...first time playing this game and I feel Im descently a good way into it. I have finally hit the lower level of the base and finished all sats and now made the 2 different facilities to give me either MEC's or Genes...and wanted to know everyones take on the class choice of these and what you like/what's purely affective.

Well, if you want to be a munchkin you should go for gene modded soldiers since a squad with mimetic skin is incredibly OP.

Is it more proper to make my heavies into MECs? Do they lose their heavy weapons?

My squad lineup is 2 Heavys, 1 Support, 2 Assault and 1 Sniper

MEC is it`s own class. Depending on which class the MECed soldier was, they get a bonus perk.

Personally I prefer sniper MECs for the aim bonus or Support MECs for the defense aura. Just grab an appropriate squaddie and chop chop.

Hmm...I do like the support bonus...that would be nice...I just made my sniper go gene for that jump boost thing...can I still swap it to MEC?

Would be a waste of meld, do it to a sniper without any gene mods.

Also, be aware that MECs level up more slowly than regular troops, though they tend to get more kills (at least for me) and that offsets the slower leveling a bit.

I generally only MEC a heavy and a sniper. I tend to MEC the heavy as early as possible, and I wait to MEC the sniper until after he/she hits Colonel (so the aim is maxed out). The heavy helps survive the early game, and the sniper is very useful in the late game.

Well most of my A squad is Col already and my B squad is about to hit Lt and Cpt, but Im in month of july :s (didnt notice how much of the months i let pass) and I am about to finally assualt the base lol.

Mechs can make good tanks, though they require more meld to upgrade their suits.
SUP3RM4N 20/jul./2014 às 21:05
Yea Im wishing I didnt now...I made a support and a sniper go MEC, and not only do i lose my sniping ability (no sniper rifle for MEC) but the gun I get is crap let alone Medium ranged 4-6...my guys where carrying Plasma Rifles...so yea...glad I did my B squad to test it first...I didnt lose my A/best guys *phew*...

Upgraded MECs are truly awesome though.
They can take a lot of damage that otherwise would have hit one of the still fully organic soldiers and repair themselves, meaning they won't be out of the game for several days after the mission, and the particle cannon is extremely destructive at close to medium range.
It is just costly to research all the lab & foundry projects needed.

I am using one assault-MEC with all the upgrades that improve durability, the rest of the squad are genetically enhanced soldiers and a hover SHIV.

MECs = nice to have. GENSoldiers = musthave.
SUP3RM4N 21/jul./2014 às 4:26
That's what Im regreting. I only had about idk, 210 Meld I believe and Im 1/3 into the game im told due to me being at the part of assaulting the alien base. and Im totally dry now, I made 2 MECs 1 is a LVL 2 one for my support (mist) and my heavy is in a LVL 1...and I got superjump for my other sniper...and now im out of meld :(
Beryll Argent 21/jul./2014 às 5:12
Can probably be fixed, given that most generic missions do contain two of those meld-providing artifacts. Actually that's silly - Why do the aliens go forth and place two objects for their enemies to find when their craft is shot down? ^^
SUP3RM4N 21/jul./2014 às 5:41
LoL...idk...well I guess I should stop complaining...for I just did a small scout UFO and was like, what the heck, bought 2 railguns and threw them in...not only did I 1 shot everything (even mutons!) but I got to punch a robot sectoid in the face and had a cool animation...yea...I like them now lol.

u already hit the lowest floor and build a cyber lab than? way to late, u build a cyberlab in frst month to be uselfull. later u dont need it anymore.
i guess u play normal or easy?
MECs are u early game Tanks when u start. play c/i or i/i and u will see.
In easy/normal u dont need any of both, in classic and above u need a mix of cyber and gen to get the best results.
