Assuming they don`t just reskin XCOM - and considering how very different underwater combat would be, how could they ? - I`d be willing to drop some money on it. 30 Euros or so, since the inevitable DLC will come and be massively overpriced.
That being said. I would love seeing a remake of TFTD or UFO:EU.Both those games were deep and fun and if they hadn't been released back to back and been so obviously the same they would have been great games individually.
Noy QUITE. There were some changes to both the tech tree and the item stats, as well as the aliens. Some weapons also didn`t work above water, like the Blaster equivalent.
It was still pretty low effort though. The true sequel to X-Com : UFO Defense is Apocalypse, which was a sadly underrated game suffering from compatibility issues.
ofcourse! i would by anything with the name xcom on it from firaxis! i loved the tftd underwater atmosphere it was really spooky:) But: there are some problems like how to throw a grenade underwater and so on... back in the 90s we just didnt mind that a soldider can throw a grenade underwater just like he can on the surface. but today ppl are diffrent ;)
But if anyone can solve this problems... it is firaxis.
So my answer is: Yes - but only if it's made by the same people who developed XCOM: EU and EW.
However, if they are going to remake anything, it should be Apocalypse. What an awesome game that was.
I'd also buy a PROPER remake of Jagged Alliance 2. Best in the genre IMO.
Yes! Apocalypse was amazingly fun. Glad somebody else mentioned it. I know plenty of people who loved the original UFO, but it always seems like I'm the only one who played Apocalypse.
To be fair, it had massive compatibility issues what with the whole "DOS/95" transition period at the time, and I know a few people who figured out Brain Suckers and then went "NOOOOOPE!"
It has an almost perfectly inverse difficulty curve.
It was a proper sequel. It did a lot of things right, but it was strangely balanced. The alien poison you could make was much too powerful and completely trivialized much of the game for me.
